150 Saito in Funtana 90??
Would 150 Saito be too much for the Futana 90. Or how about a 120 Magnum 4 stroke. Which would be better. These are just engines around the barn that I have in other airplanes. Right now I have a OS 91 2 stroke and need more power.

RE: 150 Saito in Funtana 90??
There are many who say you can't put too big an engine in this airplane. I started with a Saito 150 in mine. I felt it had more than enough power. But I didn't like how heavy the plane was. Some are not bothered by that. I was. The manufacturer states this is a 8.1 lbs airplane. With the Saito mine weight 9lbs 14ozs. I just didn't feel that was the right weight. With the extra pork you have to beef up the landing gear, the firewall, the tailwheel and the elevator supports. Once you do all that it is a pretty good plane. And yes the Saito will be an excellent choice. Mine would fly striaght up forever, and yes it would hover at about 1/2 throttle. But it seems every engine will hover at about 1/2 throttle. It doesn't seem like that is information that is of any use, but something everybody asks. If you don't want to do all the modifications I mentioned than the Saito is too much engine and you should go with a Saito 100. If you plan right you can get the weight to about 8.5 lbs and the 100 flys it pretty good there. Yes, it will hover the plane, at about 1/2 throttle. For me I didn't like the weight so I sold my 150 and have done a complete redo with a YS 110. My weight now is 9lbs 6oz. I haven't been able to fly it at the new weight yet because of snow. But I'm looking forward to seeing how it performs now. I still kept all the mods I made earlier. Most of my savings is from engine weight and wheels and removing all the balance weight. Hope this helps.
Thanks,
Barry

Thanks for the info. I might try the 150. My grandad was trying to put a 160 OS FX 2 stroke in it the other day. I told him before he did it that it was WAY too big for that airplane. Hopefully I will like this 150. I wish I can get a ys110 but I would have to spend some $$$. I am now saving up for a bigger motor for my Sukhoi.

See if you can find a buyer or trade in the marketplace here on RCU for the 150 if you really want the 110. You might get lucky. Motors move very fast here.

oh I see that would be alot cheaper.. Personally i like both motors. pretty equal in power . the saito is a little heavier and the mounting is different . but I wouldnt sell my 150 to get a 110 though.

RE: 150 Saito in Funtana 90??
I put a Saito 150 in mine, left the wheel pants off, put the battery all the way forward on the side of the motor box to balance it and the weight came in at 9 3/4 lbs. I love it! To me the plane feels very light, high alpha is very stable and hovering is easy too. Don't forget the wing area is 1100 sq inches which is a lot for a plane at that weight. I didn't do any mods other than ovaling the holes in the motor mount to spread the two rails out to fit the bigger motor. Hovers about 1/2 throttle with a APC 17X4W prop.

eddyc,
What fuel are you running? How quick does she pull out of a hover? Are you running a NiCD battery? So you're running stock landing gear, axles, tail wheel, etc? Do you like the 17x4W prop? Did you try any other props?
Sorry for all the questions. I have a 1.50 I'm going to put in a Funtana, so I want to get info from someone who's done that.

I just need a good pull out in a hover. My 91 fx just did have the pull out. I almost crashed it several times from trying to hover it. Also it doesnt hold a knifeedge.
