It sure wouldnt be cheap and from my experiences with my saito 100, it would bbe dounright expensive, I pay the price on my funtana 90 that I fly soo much and I am only 15, 30% is too darn expensive!!!

but the da 50 would be cheap fuel wise, I wonder how much the evolution is and whats it's weight and thrust compared to the DA 50?

I think that the 58 would push the wing-loading up too far. In the MVVS line (manufacturers of Evolution) the new 45cc engine would be a better choice. The 45 is a pound lighter than the 58 with a wide, flat power curve. Factory numbers suggest that this engine is competitive with other European 60s!

anywais I think I will stick with the DA 50, I seems to me that lighter is better, I think that it could pull the plane around very well for how much the plane weighs, I never really liked the look of the evolutioin engines and thought that they weighed alot and were underpowered.

do you think that Hitec's 5645 digitals will be enough for this monster.

The Extra 260 had a wingspan of 24' so at 78" the scale is 27.08%

BANCHE: If lighter is better, why not cut off at least a pound or more and go with an OS 1.60FX or Moki/Mark 2.10? They would save a lot of money, a lot of weight, put out plenty of power, and the plane would certainly land better and perform the slow 3D stuff much better. The DA50 is probably better suited for planes with a bit more wing area. Also, the Extra 260 was the plane Patty Wagstaff flew until the mid 90's in competition, and that is the plane she donated to the Smithsonian. See attached pic.

BARCC: Are you experiencing technical difficulties, or trying to exaggerate your point (triple post)? You are probably right that MVVS makes the engines, but perhaps Horizon has tweaked the design a bit? I don't know anything about this, but I do have an idea how much it would cost to set up an engine manufacturing plant. It would be much cheaper to design an engine and hire a manufacturer to produce it.

ROMANBM: You are absolutely correct, excellent-quality and special consideration command a premium price. To be honest, I wonder how you can afford to sell your planes at your price given the quality of the craftsmanship and the amount of work and time going into each one. I have owned a couple of custom-built planes and they are truly head-and-shoulders above the high-quality ARFS I have owned. I have a custom-built 27% Cap 232 with 1250 in^2 wing area, ZDZ40, that weighs 12lbs and is a tremendous plane, lands slower than many trainers. It is 2.5# lighter and 300 in^2 larger than my Hangar 9 Cap 232 was. It had a tremendous amount of power but was scary to land.

This plane looks very nice and would be quite a performer. It has great lines and probably won't have many coupling problems. I like the plug-in wings and hatch. Hangar 9 is now getting much better at building light planes, and this one will probably continue the tradition.

Anyway, I look forward to some flight reports!

Greetings,
I think most people are thinking Gas because of the cost of running a large 2-stroke, compared to regular gas ( even at todays prices ).
I am thinking of putting a F.P.E. 2.4 in mine when it comes in.........should be plenty for "Sport Flying", and economical too.

It seems to me that anything 3lbs and under is fine......since the DA 50cc is 2.94lbs.
