BR289... That Zenoah would be just fine for you as I know you only go around racetrack pattern anyway. It just might be a little tough in the fall when the corn is high.

Well, my LHS just got one of these in. It looks like the wing tube(s) are the same as my EF Yak - about 1.0625", although I think the actual even measurement is in millimeters. If it is the same, then I could drop an ounce or two right there. The plane is nice, but when I look at it, it looks more suited for the new saito 220, OS 160 or YS160. I will wait for extra addicts report with the 160 in it and I may just go that route or DZ160, unless Flying geezer reports outstanding vertical with his BME44 and an acceptible weight figure....either way, I think I gotta have this plane!!!

I just posted a flight report on the other forum bodyworks it went real well today the OS 160 did real well hovers at half throttle but the pull out was ok it gets better every tank. If you can get a YS 160 go for it I think that would be the perfect engine for it. The os is breaking in so it can only get better.

Cool. Need pics! What exhaust are you running?
Also, on the other thread, Flying geezer is looking like 13.5 with the BME44. If performance is good, I will likely go with gas.

I am running the Brisson pitts muffler sounds great! And here are some pics if I did it right. By the way if your covering is tight now it won't be when the sun hits it my plane looked like it aged 100 years in about 2 hours in the sun.

By the way I started off running a 20 X 6 zinger prop and it did OK but when I dropped back to an 18 X 8 it turned the plane into a rocket! I am gonna order a 18 X 6W and try that I think once the motor is broke in I might try the 20 X 6 agian.

Hey guys plane looks great.... what do you think of a Moki 1.8 in this?? Also what servos would you use? Would HS645's work or would it be better to use 5645's or something like that?

Keep the pics and info coming love the looks of this!!

I don't know much about the moki but I think it would do fine I think it has a little more power than my OS 160 does. I think the HS645mgs would work fine I run those in my 33% hangar 9 Extra 330s and I have no problems with them at all. I just bought the 5625s and 5645 because Tower hobbies was giving a quantity discount. I looked tonight and they have quit doing that now and that sux!

Moki 1.8 would be perfect. It's around 42 Oz, but will pull out 4.2 hp, not bad compared to DA's 5 hp. You basically save the weight of the ignition and battery.

What size tank will you use with a Moki 1.8? 20 oz? 24 oz? How long oa flight time 8-10 minutes? A DA-50 will net you the same flight time with a 12 oz tank... 8-12 oz lighter on take off.

Keep in mind that with the extra 1/4-1/2 lb of fuel at take off, you are closer to the weight of a 50cc engine setup... And your weight and balance will change dramatically over your 8-10 minute flight.

I haven't seen the inside close enough, but it would seem easier to mount a 12 oz tank on CG than a 20-24...

Glad you like the pics guys! Maudib there is plenty of room under the wing tube for mounting any size tank you choose provided you are not running can mufflers. I Don't know how the Moki compares to the OS 160 on fuel consumption but I was flying 10 min at a time and just topping off the tank. Any way at the end of the day I pulled the hatch to look at the tank and after 10 min it was only using about 1/4 of the stock 22 oz tank. That shocked everyone at the field myself included! I will be back at the field here shortly might try to wring her out a little today and I will post some pics of the inside of the fuse.

The difference in power between a Moki 1.8 and a DA-50 is pretty substantial. The Moki is a good running engine, especially with a pump, but I've been there done that and like the benefits of gassers over the Moki.

Thanks for the input guys, not sure if I can go gasser yet($$) so maybe I put off this project for a bit. Or maybe go with the moki and then later switch out for the gas....hummm something to think on.

If you're worried about $$ then the gasser is your best choice, given you will only have to pay about $.50 a flight versus $1-2.00 for nitro fuel. It is not the $ for me, though...it's the clean-up and extra fuel weight...something we don't often consider. I am still thinking about a DZ160, but I know I will need a 20oz tank to get a decent flight time, versus 12 ounces with a gasser.

Bummer...

EA, what is the distance between the firewall and the back of the spinner? What is your's set at and is the gap between cowl and spinner good?

Thx,
BK
