RE: Extra 260 27% Hangar 9er
OK fellas...here are some of my numbers...with Saito 180, Hitec 5645 servos everywhere, 6V. nicads, no effort made to assemble a light airplane. Just "went by the book" on this one...
Fuselage (RTF - fuel): 9# 13 oz.
2 Wings: 2# 3 oz total.
Grand Total: 12 pounds even.

RE: Extra 260 27% Hangar 9er
I bought a $150 scale at a Jewelry show last year. I checked it with a 5 lb weight and it's right on. As far as balancing with a 180 it might next to impossible with out adding a little lead.

just a comment on my scale. It's a digital weight watchers scale, very precise. It's checked! And, I didn't try to put everything on the scale at once, but weighted the plane part by part and added everything together. I'll try to take away as much weight as possible.

Ooops!
The conversion table I use has two sorts of pounds; Pound (lb) and pound (troy).
Now, when using the lb my plane comes to 12.1 pounds, when using troy (which I belive brits do) it comes to 14.7 pounds. Now I only hope that you guys use the lb one. Please tell me yes!

RE: Extra 260 27% Hangar 9er
what's the resolution of the scale?
Almost crashed my Extra while flying. Was off for one week to visit my family in CA, and I jumped back into it. Hovering is starting to be pretty comfortable, and harriers starting to really lock with some spoilerons. without it, a slight wing rock.
I got in trouble when I started getting cocky and tried some rolling harriers. At high rates, the ailerons on this bird is ballistic and I lost orientation about 50' up. The airplane goes into a stall and (for lack of a better explanation) wigged out on me. I think I basically entered a spin, and at my weight (with the DA), it doesn't recover quite as fast as a foamie does . So I powered up, and about 10' off the deck, I regained control.... would've been a sad day if I lost this bird today.
I'm having some issues with my ailerons. I noticed that I have a slight roll coupling during KE. I don't think I had that before, but the last 10-15 flights or so, I've noticed that tendency. Anybody else like that?

lol
yes we Americans use the lb one . I personally think we should go metric, but the US is such a big country, that we can get away with sticking with this thing the Brits gave us

RE: Extra 260 27% Hangar 9er
Josh,
My Extra 260 KE characterisics has changed somewhat as well. I used to be able to do 3/4 throttle KE passes w/ one hand. Now I have a little roll coupling as well. As I had mentioned a couple posts ago, I was doing maintenance on my bird when I discovered that the wing tube fit in the wingtube sock. After 30 or so flights, my wing tube sock had come so loose that it almost slid all the way out of the fuselage. Also the wing tube fit was so loose that there was a noticeable up & down, and front to back play. I guess its from all the blenders and violent snap manuevers I do. Anyway, I wrapped the wing tube w/ H9 trim tape, only on the part of the tube that goes into the fuse. The wingtube fit in the wings are still fine. The fix seems like it will work. I will find out this afternoon when I go flying.

This explains a lot and puts the plane at. 8.1 pounds bare. That would mean 12.6 pounds for me with the OS160 and a lightly tuned exhaust. Sounds like a very nice combo at sea level.

just for info. This is how the SAITO fits in the cowl, nice! With on board glow I only need to make holes for the needle and the muffler. (I have a slimline pitts style on order) I think its going to be a very nice plane to fly!

RE: Extra 260 27% Hangar 9er
Should be a good combo.
Had a couple of more flights with mine today... on the second flight, I noticed that the ailerons required a lot of left trimed, and was not nearly as responsive... I kept flying though, and it wasn't until the end of the flight that I realized the control armwas just off altogether. the screw must have came loose and eventually the control arm came off. So I was flying the whole time with just one aileron .
Lesson for the masses, periodically check and tighten every nuts, bolts and screws, especially with the way these gas engines rattle the heck out of them

RE: Extra 260 27% Hangar 9er
Well I just got back from the field and the BGX is gonna be a pretty good combo after a little tweaking. Vertical is now unlimited and the extra weight of the motor seemed to give it a more locked on feel if that makes any sense it really doesn't to me but I am happy with it. I still have to work out a bug with the motor as it is sloppy rich in the midrange but perfect at high rpms so throttle transition is sluggish but I will figure that out I hope. If any of you have any ideas as to why it could be rich in the midrange feel free to chime in.

High end--Hi end needle
Low end--low end needle
Mid range--Pump pressure
Without the pump you do not have mid range adjustment. Also, it allows you to set your high and low needles a bit more on the leaner side--2 strokes are sensitive to the perfect needle settings if you want instant response.
What Prop/RPM are you turning with what fuel?
How was your fuel consumption compared to the 1.6?

RE: Extra 260 27% Hangar 9er
Well I am running the Vp-30. Fuel consumption is alot higher than the 160 but with the midrange so rich it is gonna drink alot more fuel. I started off with a 20X6 but I wasn't impressed with it hense the tuning issues. It really liked the 18x8 but I didn't put the tach on it. The 20x6 was showing 7700 on the ground so I am probobly getting 8300 to 8500 with the 18x8. I am running 20% nitro 20% oil ( YS Blend Byron fuels). I am gonna pick up some 10% nitro for the BGX.

Did you try the 20 x6 on the OS 160? Jett engineering claims to the OSFX1.6 to turn a 20 x8 apc at 7,250 and with turbo jet 7,800 on 5% powermaster.
http://www.jettengineering.com/
My Uncle has a Fugi50cc and a OS160. The OS160 will turn a 20 x 8(not sure wich 20 x8 prop and RPM) 100 rpm faster than the 50ccFugi. Same prop, same day.--Not saying that this is typical; I think he has a bad running F50cc and a good running OS160? I am impressed, though, with the way the FX1.6 pulls with it is loaded.
