Anyone Flying a Magic Extra Yet?
I have not checked the posts a lot lately but I am interested to see if anyone is flying a Magic Extra yet? I want to buy a Magic, but wanted to wait and see if I should buy the Magic Extra instead. My LHS has both on order. I plan to use an OS .46FX that I have.
I would like to get some feedback on the Magic Extra if it is out there. Thanks!

My LHS said he was speaking with the distributor a few days ago,and they could not tell him when they would get their next shipment of the Magic Extra.

Magic Extra
I thought about buying a magic Extra, I dismissed the thought for two reasons .
The first , I got tired of the original Magic after a little while , and i don't really fly fun fly style aircraft anymore .
And the second is that I am already building a 1/4 scale Edge 540 and a 1/3 scaled H-9 Sukkhoi , and i have a few other planes that I will be flying so i don't need it , Mainly i got into giant scale and compared to an Extra or a Edge a Magic is chopped liver ...
IMO at least.

The reasons I want one of these small fun-fly planes:
1. They don't break the bank.
2. You don't need to buy a real big engine.
3. It can be landed on a short grass LZ.
4. It will fit inside my little SUV with the wing installed.
etc.etc.
If mine isn't here by 1/1/03, I'll change my order and get a Balsa Nova kit.
When they do arrive, I'm sure there will be tons of reviews posted.

Is there pics of the magic extra? I have not seen it. Is it semi scale or profile? I just got my magic up. Chopped liver Josh? Whatever floats your boat. Fun fly rocks! It is all in your taste and who you must impress. ----Mike

The Magic Extra appears to be a built up fuse, with canopy and more of a midwing plane. Also dural L.G.maybe.
Check out the Model Tech advert in RCM.
Delivery may be a long time. I cancelled my order for one,and ordered a Funky 40.

Thanks! It looks like a Somthin extra? I like it. It should be lighter and not $200 like the Sig. If it flies like the Magic, I am on it. I can fly these planes in my front yard. I am groovin' on that! ---Mike

It looks like the ModelTech Extra 300 fuse design with
a shorter Magic style wing.
The only other pictures around at other sites seem to be the same one as in the catalogs. A fuzzy top view.
I hear the longshoremen are really getting into unloading those ships (That's a union joke).

They are in the mail (almost)
I got the good word today. Next week, Quantum is getting
"a limited number of Magic Extras".
I should be flying it before the snow comes! (If I'm lucky).

My Magic Extra arrived today (ordered several weeks ago from Hobby People). Initial impression is "very impressed". Covering, instructions, construction, etc. all appear extremely good. Never saw a picture of the wing underside so did know that it and the horizontal stab were white and blue stripe; looks nice.

Thanks for the info. I hate it when I can't tell if the plane is upside down!
Got my UPS tracking number late this afternoon.
The ME46 should be here by the weekend!
In the mean-time, post some photos of the parts!

The LHS that I work at here is Missouri received 3 of them today. So they are being shipped from the supplier and should be at your LHS's any day now.

Anyone Flying a Magic Extra Yet?
I just used an accurate electronic scale to compute the weight of all the parts in the box that will be used to complete the model; wheel pants, linkages, fuel tank, everything. Total weight was 46.7 oz. I then computed the total weight of the engine and radio I intend to use (Webra .50 with Ultra Thrust muffler, spinner and prop, Futaba RX, large 5 cell battery, 5 Hitec HS-5245MG servos, switch harness). That weight was 33 oz. Total weight is 79.7 oz or 4.98 lbs. Box top claims the total flying weight will be 4.5 to 5.1 lbs. Add a little bit of glue to the weight I computed and the box top advertising is honest.
A second look at the model and I am still as impressed as I was last night - very nice appearance, covered well. Covering will require NO TOUCH-UP! Graphics are typical peel and stick with large clear areas showing. I scanned the images and imported them into the basic Stika software. They scanned extremely clean so I intend to make duplicates of those graphics with the Stika vinyl cutter, which by the way is quite a machine.
I won't be the first to get a Magic Extra flying since I intend to finish a Flying Machine; meaning a month or so. Hope someone has a flying report soon.

Anyone Flying a Magic Extra Yet?
I'm halfway through building mine at the moment. I bought it from Hobby People, as it came through the door. In fact all three of the shipment were sold before they were put down on the counter!
Anyway, it is high quality and amazingly light. My favourite model has to include the Sig Somethin' Extra, and it looks like a light version of that. It has HUGE ailerons so should roll a bit!
Can't decide whether to put my Saito 72 or OS 46 FX in it. . .

Anyone Flying a Magic Extra Yet?
I had one on order from Quantum Models, but the their first shipment of a dozen or so did not fill their backorder log - mine included. My LHS talked to Global (the distributor) and was told that they expect to ship more by the end of November. Seems the dock strike still has shipments backed up.
Regarding my plans for this plane.
I am new to the hobby this year. Have worn out a trainer and am currently flying a great planes "big stik" with OS46fx and have a pizza box flyer. (I'm not very proficient with the PBF yet.)
I have a brand new Saito 72 and would really like to use it in either the big stik or my magic extra (if I ever get it.) Would really appreciate a flight report on the magic extra when someone gets on flying. Would REALLY appreciate the flight report talking about the use of the magic extra for a novice to learn aerobatics.

They tell you how to drill the holes in the firewall for the motor mounts. But, my firewall is already drilled and the blind nuts are pre-installed.
Problem is, the holes in the mounts won't line with the firewall holes. They are only about 0.1" off, so I'll make one hole in each side a little over-sized.
It looks like the TT .46 Pro will fit on the mounts, but a little wood will have to trimmed off the left cheek.
It's cut out for a rear-mounted needle valve.
