Prop recommendations for Katana 50
I just bought a [link=http://shop.jamara-produkte.de/product_info.php?products_id=813]Katana 50[/link] and would like to know which prop I need to use to do 3D with an OS .46 AX engine.
The site recommends an 11x7, my local shop recommended a 12.25x3.75 (which I already bought), but which one do you guys recommend ?
thx,
Prophex

RE: Prop recommendations for Katana 50
Hi,
I am flying a Katana with .53 Irvine engine - 12 x 5 APC prop. Fuel has 5% nitro. It has unlimited vertical and is fast. But I want it faster so I will also try 11 x 7 prop. But if like to try 3D you should put another one like 12x4 or 12,25x3,75 etc.
IMHO this is not a 3D plane it is heavy and snaps easly. But it is great when you speed. You have to fly (and land) this plane fast.
Regards.

RE: Prop recommendations for Katana 50
I fly mine with a 12x4 prop (.46 AX). Flies much better on this prop rather than 11x7. RPM is approx 12k with 12x4 and 10k with 11x7. Won't hover for more than a few seconds, but flying aerobatics is quite nice. What I don't like is the snappy spins. But, everything else is quite nice, well manored. Knife edge is slight tuck to belly, but not much at all.

RE: Prop recommendations for Katana 50
The OS .46 AX/FX engines seen to really have an issue pulling the 12.25 x 3.75 APC at any altitude much above sea level IME so that really isn't the prop to use with those engines, it does work very well on the ringed OS 50SX FWIW.
My personal favorite prop for the .46 is the APC 11 x 4 or 11.5 x 4, these props are narrower blade than the fun fly props and really allow the little .46 to spool up inot the rpm range where they make the best power, spool up is very quick as well.
This past weekend I ran inot this same situation with a friend at the field who was attempting to fly a new Accel hobby Katana with a .46FX and the 12.25 x 3.75 and having nothing but problems. I suggested he change the prop to an 11 x 4 and he was blown away by the change in performance. The trick to getting good 3D performance out of a little 2 stroke is to not overprop it and let it rev.

for 3D or aerobatic you would want to get the max diameter the engine would take w/ the lowest pitch you can get... this allow faster spool up... so faster transition from low to high thottle

11.5*4.5 might be what your'e looking for.
but, you could try 11*4 all the way up to 12.25*3.75
somewhere in the middle should hook you up.
I personnally would put a magnum .52 xls on a kat that size.
Thats just me though. i run the .52 on a burrito[:-] and have plenty'o'bean power.
Asaito .82 would rock it also.

My engine of choice for a .40 profile is hands down a Saito .72 swinging an APC 14 x 4, power is simply not an issue and the pull out from a hover is a sight to behold.

I think I'll try the 12.5 x 3.75 and if it doesn't work out as I expected, I'll go with an 11 x 4 (as shogun recommends) or even an 11 x 7 (as the site recommends, but probably not)
thx for all the input guys,

RE: Prop recommendations for Katana 50
Hi there, what about a 61 fx for the ultra RC Kitana 50? what prop does everyone recommend? this is pretty urgent. I want power, hovering, vertical performance.
