I am intrigued by both the LIGHT weight and the HUGE wing area. Basically, it is 3-4# lighter than an 87" Yak with 120in^2 less wing area. I think I have one in my future. This will be strong competition for the Ultra-RC Giles UL.

It is $10 more than the 29% Ultra-RC Giles, and is a bit larger. It is $20 less than the GP Patty Wagstaff, 2-4# lighter, and has more wing area.

If it flies anything like their Edge it will be outstanding.

Since videos really help enforce the flight characteristics of the plane, hopefully Pacific Aero will commission a flight video and post it here!

I think its very new even here in the UK- mine is a proto from the first batch. I dont have much info on it but i will try and find out. Its main strength is its low wing loading though. Recovering from mistakes in 3D at low level is just so easy and stress-free i really like it.

I think if the pacific flies even half as good as the YT it will be well received.

Well, I do have some good news about the Pacific Aeromodel Katana 1.40. I just bought one and recieved it. Everything is packaged VERY well and appears well built as well. The only thing that is missing and keeping me from building is the instruction manual. I plan on putting pics up of the pieces out of the box soon.

If anyone has a manual handy that I could gegt faxed or something email pdf's or email me at [email protected]. I really want to build this instead of waiting for a manual, Thanks

Good looking plane.. I am on this one too for a while but could not get enough info either from rcuniverse nor the pacaeromodel. So I bought an Ultra-RC UL Giles but still interested with this Katana also. I think PACAERO make nice and light models but they lack the marketing side. I do not think that you could find a manuel easily soon and suggest start building anyway as it seems straightforward. Can you send the weights of the parts, the pictures of the cowling and the canopy? BTW what engine will you be using?

That looks like typical Pacific Aero Model quality. They make wonderful planes.

When you get a chance could you take some 3-view pictures (directly above, to the side, and head-on)? The pictures I hve seen look a bit off scale, but the problem may be related to the camera angle.

As for my manual, it doesn't exist. I called Pacaero and since there is going to be a revision coming out soon due to the tail-heavy problem, there is not a manual for the old ones. I purchased it knowing that the problem existed, so i got the vital info that the CG is on the spar and the thrust line is in the center of the hole on the engine mounting block. BUILD ON!

Are wing and stab tubes included in the total plane bare weight?
What is this tail heavy problem? are they changing the design?

I think that the tail heavyness is due to the shear length of the fuse, so its not really a design problem if it is kept to scale, its just a weight and balance issue, moving the servos and radio forward should take care of it. Here are pics. I also edited the weights so that it now includes the tubes as well.

You're looking at about 15 pounds and a few ounces all up if you used a DA50. With that G45 you're probably going to add at least another pound over the DA50. The batt's and switches are almost a pound. Radio gear (extensions, linkages etc) plus fuel tank weigh at least a pound. Does your engine weight include ignition, exhaust, and all engine mounting hardware? To come in near 8 pounds out of the box is respectable. That's about what my Dave Patrick 79 inch Edge 540T weighed.

The engine weight is including the ignition and hardware to mount it, also the Bennet exhaust is with that as well. I figure it is safe to be a little nose heavy rather than tail heavy. I would like to go out and get a different engine, boy would that be nice, but I already have this one and the lacking of funds is also an issue.

If that engine weight includes all that then you should be only about a half pound heavier than the DA50. You should be around 15.5 pounds.

I would not recommend anything over a bare weight of 6.5 pounds with your SA150--This would put your all up weight close to 10.5 pounds(not enough for most). With this plane you would be closer to 12 pounds and too much for unlimited 3D flight with the 150.

Might want to look into the F90 for the 150

Well I got it all built. It was a fairly straight forward kit to build, although there were no instructions. As far as balance goes I didn't have to add any weight to the nose at all, the G45 had enough weight to balance it out. I am just waiting for a muffler to come for the engine so I can compare how each of them sit in the cowl. Also the cowl doesn't match up with the engine and the stripes down the side very well. I think that I will be leaving it off until I figure out if the thrust angle is corect before permanantly installing the cowl. Once I get the muffler installed I will just place the cowl on and get some pictures posted of the final product and overall weight.

Hi,

thanks for posting all the info.

Would a G-62 with electronic ignition be too much for this airfame? It has more wing area than many of the other planes in this range.
