Yeah...I would call it a success! It would have made a mildly crappy day even crappier had I dumped that brand new plane! Immediately after that flight....I set the dual rates for real with some expo and life was good....had a very mello second flight without any of the drama. That old DL-50 is purring right along with the new carb, ring, and ignition.....I was getting 6800 on a 3 blade Mezj 20x10....I think thats in the ballpark. Sorry for the potty mouth at the end....I was a little excited...

I Just installed a dl50 in my ultimate and i find it's too much engine, spinning a 22x8 it climbs at 1/4 throttle almost impossible to hover too much power, I like my planes to hove at just under 3/4 throttle thinking a dle35ra any thoughts?

I had a DA-50 on mine. The extra power I thought was good, but that is me. Can you program a throttle curve or lower your throttle endpoint in your transmitter? The other thing would be to mechanically limit your throttle arm so it only goes like 85% open. I would not go with a smaller engine. A 35cc is probably good for a 10 lb plane but not a 15 lb plane.
The problem I had with hovering is that I could not get enough aileron to stop the torque roll.

No with my dl50 0-1/4 throttle is hovering, since my smoke only starts at 1/2 throttle to full throttle this sort of bites, doing a throttle curve would be pointless, ordered a dle-40 twin 20# for a 13# plane should act better

What is better than an ultimate hovering with smoke? a nice harrier pass into a hover, my harriers are just over idle I could drop to a 22x8 but with the 40twin will be in the power band

My GP Ultimate turned into a Decepticon this weekend so I had to Kill it...... I threw it into a Blender and it literally exploded.....it rained down pieces for at least a minute. I was pretty high up.....got it rotating then threw the sticks to the corners and BOOM.....the wings disentigrated and the fuse came down like a lawn dart......I would have been highly impressed....if it weren't MY airplane......

LOL! Yeah...I wish we had this one on video. I wasnt too broken up about it 'cause it was a used airplane that I got for a great price and I stuffed it with a bunch of stuff I had laying around....but still......I was really bummed because I had just put one of those Flex Innovations Gyros in it and it was a blast to fly! I think the gyro survived (I haven't gone through the carcass yet...just happened yesterday...) so I may end up putting it in a H9 Carden Yak I have.
I dont even think this thing made one turn....as soon as I put the sticks in the corner.....confetti! I gotta see if the spar was glued in properly but it wont make a difference....still comin home in a trash bag...

Had you reenforced the dihedral blocks? I'm trying to think of where the stress points would be in a blender(?) It does snap that wing root when you flatten out.

Had one of these some time back. I had a DLE 50 on it and it was a great 3D flyer. The only thing to watch for is you need to make sure of the upper wing joint security. Mine had the metal center rib and it failed due to poor bonding. you need to be sure the bonding is GOOD.

It looks like both spars broke in half. Niether were reinforced and the bottom wing looked like it could use a little more epoxy as there was very little bonding the wings together. The top wing had an adequate amount bonded to the metal center rib because there are torn wood fibres still bonded. Pretty sure the bottom wing failed first then the top wing seperated....but it was still instantaneous. Still haven't hosed off the mud from the DL-50 so dont know if it survived but it looks like most of the electronics came out OK...we'll see tonight.
