Sorry to burst your bubble but neither one of our motors is ideal. If anything than the 46 FX. This is an airplane that beggs for a four stroke. The only moter in fourstroke would be the Saito 72. This motor fits pefectly and balance for an ideal CG. No extra weight needed. Mine hoves at less than half throttle. I 've seen it fly with the FX46 and a Saito 56. Neither one impressed me at all. But it's your call.

Wow, there are a lot of twist postes lately! There is a 100+ pages thread in the ARF and RTF section....But I too would go for the saito 72 if I had money.

OUR Club now has 7 Twists and ALL with 4 strokes... EXCEPT MINE... OS 46ax and a 12x4..
There is only one that flat spins upright and inverted and GREAT waterfalls...MINE...
So for what it is worth: OS 46ax, 12x4 Zinger, battery under tank and slightly tail heavy...

If you are going to put your $ together for a four sroke go with the Saito 82.One gram lighter then the 72,same mounting holes and a ton more power.Love to do climbing flat spins with my Twist.Whatever you put in it have fun she is a great little plane for 99 dollars.

I have the twist with a 72 siato and it is the perfect combination bar none. Tons of power (will climb verical out of sight) and will flat spin upright or inverted while gaining altitude.

The magnum is going to be alot less power then the FA72 plus it weighs abit more.
The 82 is honestly the best 4stroke for 40 size 3D planes

What about the Magnum 70 FS would that be equavilant to the Saito 72 FS?
Thanks Matt

RE: What motor for a hangar 9 Twist?
hey guys, trust me i have a twist, and i have tried a few motors/props/fuel in it as a 3-d test planeand here is the winner
hanger 9 twist, evolution or o.s. .61 2 stroke (all other .61 engines tried did not have the power of the nearly identical performance of the evolution and o.s.) for the prop, the best real world hover/climbout thrust tests came form the master airscrew 13-5 k series, and the fuel was morgan cool power 15 or 20 percent nitro(20 had more power but engines were more reliable on 15) i have no problems with 4-strokes but a guy at our club has a 4-stroke 72 in his twist and it cannot touch ours (there are 3, 61 powered twists) in climb, hover, pullout of hover, or speed. hover is right near 1/4 throttle with rocket pulluot, but this is seriously not too much engine for this plane as it can sustain fuull throttle speed for as long as you want with no flutter. some other tips, ditch the heavy wheels and go with ultra lite foam wheels, this shaves over 3 ounces off weght of plane, also couple flaps to up elevator and spoilers to down elevator for 1 per second loops (TIGHT waterfall), the engine 9>61) install requires a horizontal position which also requires removal of the left "cheek" (use a pitts muffler and shave alot of weight and gain 750 rpm)
hope this helps!!! i.m. me for more info

RE: What motor for a hangar 9 Twist?
I have a tower 75 in mine, love it. with floats mine weighs ~6.5 lbs. The pic has a OS 70 but it wasnt enough so I got the Tower 75. My tower 75 has been just as good as any OS FX, my point... a great engine for the money.

RE: What motor for a hangar 9 Twist?
Was running the os .46 fxi in my twist till it fell from the sky. Building twist #2 and waiting on a new crankcase from tower for the motor. Going to hope i can get more than 5 flights out this twist befor the wings fold on my. My first twist will not go to waste, wings are allmost rebuild(minus some wingspan lol) and fuse templates and cutting is nearly done. This profile Twist looks like it may fly good on my MDS .48, Hell if it dont ill post some more crash pics.

I would use a Saito 82. I was using a 46 in mine until I switched to the Saito. Great power to weight ratio. This thing is like a rocket.

squawk, which prop are you using? I´m gonna use a Saito 82 also in the Twist w/ an APC 14x4 or 15x4 w/ 20/20

I bought a Twist spring of 2004 and flew it all that summer with a Evo .46, 100 flights or more good plane-motor combo. I bought a new Twist this past spring and put a new Saito .72 in it, oh my. A four stroke really wakes this plane up, no comparison in how well the 4 stroke plane flies vs. the 2 stroke.
