Default CHP Yak........ Another Yak???

Yea another one, however I am going to bite on this one. All the CHP plane I have flown all seem to fly the was I want them to fly. I like the thinner fuse and the longer tail moment then some of the other Yak's. Some seem to fat.

Looks similar to an areotech, at least the scheme and the way the wings will recess in the fuse.
Everyone is Going YAK CRAZY, but I enjoy it.

...Some seem to fat.
True-to-scale models are fat because their full size counterparts are fat enough to carry a human.
Scale models look normal because they are fat.

The covering is UltraCote and the final price has been set: $695 and reservation on the first batch are open... $200 non-refundable deposit required...

Squeel!

It doesn't appear to have a pipe tunnel designed in... based on the clear blue underside pic ...

I asked Chip about the length & wingarea this a.m.

Will let ya all know when I hear back...

I do like the cowl ring and interlocking hooks for attachment... I'd assume you put a couple bolts in from the insde of the fuse to attach...

It's definitely semi-scale and has a longer nose. Rather than duplicating the full-scale, many designers are modifying their designs to perform better, balance easier, etc.

I think it looks sleaker and less stubby than the full-scale...

longer nose = lighter motor=lighter plane=better flying plane.

all true, but why don't the EF yak or the QQ yak have that long nose.....

I'm honestly curious... it just looks so different...
what is lighter than the DA in this class?

no bashing... just looks strange to me

Again... who knows... all of Chip's planes are long... maybe it's apersonal preference or perhaps his personal experience.

I think that different people like different flying characteristics... I absolutely LOVE the EF Yak... see my review here on RCU soon..

I have the QQ 102" Yak too... need to get building that soon.

And I'll have the CHP Yak too... I like Yaks can't ya tell?

If it really bugs ya then I guess it's not your next plane... I'm with you.. I gotta like the looks of my planes... (couldn't stand the TOC1 Yak schemes though the newer ones look better)

I have been looking at big fatties for some time, but have been able to resist the urge so far. My willpower is getting weaker and I sure do like the looks of this one. I am a complete noob when it comes to big-uns, so I am counting on you guys to educate me on a good set up for this plane. I will warn everyone now that I will be following this thread and asking goofy questions.

Some planes are sort of designed around a particular engine, so is there an engine of choice for this one? Way too much power is usually about right for me.

Stupid would be the BME 110.

Im, guessing it would perform better with the new DA 75 or even the new ZDZ 80 Super then a DA 100.

Chip told me he has only flown it with the DA 75, thats not available to us regular folks, yet.

Well, now there are more Yak-54 manufacturers (in this size range) than there are full-scale Yak-54's in existence (7). Also, I don't think any have the cool forward-curving landing gear.

The big CHP Extra doesn't look too much like an Extra either, but the loooong tail and nose moment make it fly oh-so-sweet. I bet this plane will also fly much more like a pattern plane than a short-coupled profile plane.

I keep waiting for someone to mention the transparent blue on the bottom of the CHP Yak but no one has. I can't stand it. [:@] Blue on the bottom of a plane when looking up in a blue sky=problems. At least for me. And I really just don't like the transparent covering on a plane this size. Maybe on a .40 profile or something........... Anybody else feel this way?

Around here in the Great and often time Cloudy Pacifc Northwest I can't stand silver on the bottom (e.g. 50cc TOC1 Yak) of the wings... Blends in too well with the clouds...[:'(] Blue wouldn't be bad except for during that short period between the warm rain and the cold rain...

A buddy of mine has the 35% TOC Yak in the silver scheme. Just like you said, on a cloudy day it's very hard to see..........

Yea, I thought of that. A buddy has the Seagull Harrier and he added white stripes to the underside of it. Much better..... I still don't care for transparent covering though.

I certainly don't blame ya... I kindof like it myslef... again different and you can see up inside the thing to make sure there are no stress failure imminent...

The Funtana 90 I flew had tha same blue belly with some onvasion stripes.... NEVER had a problem seeing it at all in our blue skies or grey...

There may STILL be some minor things changed in the production run... I mentioned to him that the blue trim on the canopy might better off be silver.... and that the wheel pants & gear be white instead of the blue. The overall scheme will remain the same though as far as I know...
