Gary,,, your gonna love it. Just don't let it fool you into a super slow landing. TIP !!!! They will float in really nice and slow so you'll think "Hmmm,,,, just like the UCD~~~~~~DUH~~scrape~~. LOL"

I just happened to pick one of these up on ebay for cheap and was wondering about the engine. I've got an OS 1.20 Surpass that I could stick on there but was wondering if It would have enough power for decent sport flying. How much weight is needed on the nose of this thing to make it ballance without adding any tail weight (or nose weight)?

Remember that is at the wing tip, not the wing root. Horizon had it on their website before they removed the plane from their listing. When I got mine it had a copy of the notice included with the plane.

Got mine today. Looks pretty good and all the mods have been done to the LG and fues weak spot so I guess its not an older version. Trying to decide on a OS 1.60 or 40cc gas.

Flew the weedwacker 25 yesterday for the first time. It's a touch nose heavy and does'nt like slow flying but other than that. it was fun to fly. Could us a couple more horses. The wheel pants don't like grass runway. Had to remove them. Larry

Flew mine yesterday. The Brillelli 40cc is really coming to life now. Tons of power and vertical .

I think I want to try a OS 1.60 in mine. Did you try that combo? If so do you think I need a larger fuel tank then the stock one?

The truth is,,,,, I could never get a 160FX to run reliable enough to trust. I know , I know..... must be the operator. But I bet there are several other's in here who will back me up in regards to the big bore two strokes. But to answer your question,,,, YES,,, the OS160FX w/18x6W APC is a power house and will fly planes much bigger and heavier than the SS120. I had my best luck "in a glow engine config" with the Saito150. Fits nicely and when dialed in sips fuel making the 16oz stock tank perfect for the job. But same goes with the 160. After break-in and with the low-end dialed to a T. It isn't half bad at fuel consumption. Just never could be sure when the next dead stick was coming. [:@]
I realize the gas engines aren't for everyone. But don't be afraid to move up to one if you can. It's so much easier to take your plane, gas can and a glove to the field instead of all the stuff we normally do with glow flying. Plus no oily mess afterward and most importantly of all........... the price per gallon. And I'll also admit I only own three gassers so far. All Brillelli Engines. But they have been without a doubt the most reliable and economical source for prop power I've found. Until Lipo batteries get cheaper or nitro comes down. I'll be using gasoline when I can. Plus check the prices of a new Brillelli Engine to any big bore nitro. You may be surprised.

OK Kurt, I will give Scott a try on this one. Could you measure the standoffs for the mount on the 40cc and let me know the length of the standoffs in case Scott does not remember the size for that air frame. You used a 3" spinner or 2 1/2? I guess the 46cc would be the better choice so I can use it in other planes as well? Or will the extra weight put me too nose heavy? Thanks again Jack

Scott will know which standoffs to send you. Use the 3" spinner. Mine came out at 12.5lbs with the 40GT. Using a NX 20x8 prop.
The only thing I had to do was move the RX battery back about 8" from where it was originally. Put the 16oz fuel tank on the CG.

Thanks Eric, I knew I would be nose heavy, but for the first flight I was ok with that. I added some weight to the rear and i'll see how that works. I feel like I need a little more prop on it. Have a 16x8 now and the 25 tacks 8300 on the bench. Any info on that out there?

Just received my Super Star yesterday that I won off EBay 128.00 shipped, unpacked it and looks great, covering is flawless and you just have to love that huge cowl... Mine also has the beefed up landing gear area... Now the decision on what to power it with...I have a 1.50 and a 1.80 Saito sitting idle but hate cleaning up that glow fuel mess and all that extra junk to haul up to my field, so gas looks more attractive to me...Any you guys using flapperons to help with a little slower landings? I'm presently working on a couple of weedie conversions maybe do the gas glow thing on a 25cc poulan to keep it light... Any suggestions welcome...Larry

well im going out and maiden today but i dont like all that D.S talk Sturtz i guess my tuning abilities ive been working on all my life will be tested today, at least it only cost $#99 but it sure is worth alot more to me(looks like alot more!)

the 160 sure was sweet on the bench but i know what your saying Kurt....

yea baby!!!!! i did it , no dead sticks on the os160, got 4 flights in and did do a lot more tuning at the end of each flight but i think i have it im not one for lengthy maiden reports but this plane was worth a whole lot more than i paid and i think all the wondering about the quality of this plane and worrying about why they sold them so cheap can be put to rest(by me anyways) this is one keeper and flew (although i was conservitive)and landed like a creampuff and melted right into the runway on landing, not a scratch after 4 flight, so i say go fly it with confidence

no pump TOFAST,and the tank is stock and i see no reason for bigger(you will have to lean out the low speed after runin)i havent flew for full lenght yet(only 4 flights) but after about 7 min i still had more than half a tank and i left it in stock location.
it balanced perfectely at 4.5 in with rec and batt right under the servo tray....perfect

What have you guys done for 4-stroke throttle servo setups? The inside approach seems to bind really badly and I don't want to turn the carb around because the arm/rod will hit the block and not allow WOT. And WOT is always a necessity. I'm thinking about putting the servo up underneath the cowl next to the fuel tank. Any thoughts? Can I use something tiny like an HS-55 or will they vibrate to death?

4.5 in and it really flies nice, i do have elevator at 3/4 in with about 30% expo also on low rates.

i used that location on my pitts monster with saito 180 and it works really great.

Great maiden news Gary !!!!! Flew mine again Sunday. Big fun and killer flat spins. Just had to watch my elev on 3/D rates coming out of inverted stuff. Otherwise it's a real blast to fly . Take em up and get crazy.

I have a decent servo to fit the thing but i can't find any rubber grommets anywhere.

Gary, did you have to close off one of the exhust tubes on the Pitts muffler to get the 1.60 to idle right?
