Dennis, I have a cowl for the Goldberg Yak. I lost the plane some time ago there was no damage to the cowl. The only thing is it is cut out for a Saito 220. Other than that it is in mint condition. I just emailed you.

My CG 77" Edge has the DL50 and I couldn't be any more pleased with it. A few were concerned with using a 50cc gas engine with these birds, but the truth of the matter is that the frame is well suited for the job. I had to do some work on the firewall to fit the larger engine. I suppose the Yak, being of similar dimensions can benefit from having a 50cc gas engine in the nose, whether a DA or DL50.
Make sure you have 10kg servos all around though.

I just maidened my Goldberg 77" Yak this weekend. What a great flying plane. I have a Brillelli 46 GT with single HS 5645's on the ailerons, dual HS 5645's on the elevators, A JR 8611a on the rudder and a HS 5245 for the throttle. Smart Fly ignition cutoff, 2 2700mh 6 vlt NMH for the servo's and a 2700 4.8 vlt NMH for the ignition, and a XOAR 22x8 dragging it around. Unlimited vertical with a weight a tad over 15 llbs. Lands like a trainer.... Only problem I had was one of the wheelpants came loose due to forgetting to locktite it . When I landed it spun around and cracked in several places.

I have mine for sale here on RCU for a reasonable price. It would make all the spare parts you could want.

Bryan, I read your post and deja vue. I started out with a 3250 in my 77 cg yak and had nothing but trouble. ST blamed the fuel delivery system. I sent it back twice and finally bought an OSBGX! and love it. Same exact fuel system. You will not regret it. I also was a st fan until this plane.

Sorry Dennis, I read your info too quickly and saw "Bryan". Did you end up getting the BGX1?

Yes I did get the BGX-1 and am having a blast with it. What a difference in engines. Supertigre made some darned good engines but the 3250 would be more well suited as a boat anchor. The 2500/3000/4500 were excellent engines but for some reason the 3250 falls way short in comparrison. I know it's not me because I can get anything to run and run great. The 3250 will run but is a different animal everytime you go to the field. If a person can get a 3250 to run it is either because they have low expectations of an engine or they are not running them as hard as I run my engines and do not notice their poor performance. The O.S. BGX-1 is a superb running engine on ZERO nitro and 12% lube. Swings a Mezlik 20 x 6 carbon prop at 8700 rpm all day long with a smooth as silk idle and transition without a hiccup. I'm sure we will hear some static concerning my comments but read the forums. There seems to be more than I sharring the same opinion of the 3250. We can't all be wrong! ST blamed the fuel delivery system? Imagine that! Did you really think they would give you your money back? LMAO!

I didnt know what to do with the 3250 so I sent it back to them. They rebuilt it again and sent it back. I kept burning it up. To me its just spare parts now. Did you have any trouble with the landing gear? I had to re-enforce by applying a sheet of aluminum under the plate the gear attaches to. I use 4 servos in the wings. Top Flight 20x8 prop. 6 volt 2500 mah

Blown head gaskets a lot of the time. Head bolts needed lock washers to solve this problem. It was just one thing after another. Very frustrating. The O.S. BGX-1 was almost a "drop-in" replacement. I did reinforce the LG plate with some plywood sandwiched to the sides but really no issues here. I can grease 'em in pretty good most of the time. I have bent the gear but never damaged the mount plate. I used 4 servos also on ailerons with a JR Matchbox for each wing and the "flaperon" setting on the Tx. Works perfectly.

Whitsett,

There has been mixed opinion about the carl Goldberg customer support. I have called CG directly in the past and had good luck. phone #678-450-0085 Let me know how you make out for future reference.

I tried that number but it has been dis-connected. Tower gave me a number also to try at Hobbico but the recording said they only sell replacement parts for wood build it yourself kits. Surely someone has one laying around.
Thanks for trying though.

Sorry Whitsett I just read the fine print at the cg website and noted this: "*Please note that we do not sell repair parts such as those listed in your instruction manual. These must be purchased through your favorite retailer. We are strictly a distributor and are not a hobby shop, and cannot sell you parts or complete items."

Looks like they want you to buy from a hobby shop but maybe you will get lucky here.

Default RE: Goldberg YAK 54 - 77

I have a question..I have several Carl Goldberg Great Planes 67" Yaks, bought 6, 3 yrs ago, when Tower discontinued them. Have 2 flying with Super Tigre 90's in them and they fly very well. Not enough power for extreme 3D, but the I'm not in to that. I changed the landing gear out to Carbon fiber, which  reduces landing bounce (makes 'em stick) & attached with break away nylon # 6 screws which saves the plane on dead sticks.

My question is: Has anybody ever taken the wings from the next model size up, GP made a 77" 81" wing span model, and put on the 67" fuse?

The reason I ask is that I recently bought what I thought was a 67" CG GP Yak at the Perry swap meet. Got it home & started building it & the wings have two servo holes each; unlike the wings I have. After measuring, I figured out the guy had the wings off the bigger Yak on the smaller Yak!! He repositioned the mounting holes, etc & it looks good!! BUT, where's the Center of Gravity ???? The smaller Yak calls for 4 1/2 to 5 1/2", The larger calls for 6" 1/4.

Looks like the guy had a 2 cycle on it (it had stand outs attached) so I put a SV 26 gasser on it. With the two 4.8 v bats up front & a 12 oz empty tank (rudder servo is in standard place in fuse, throttle servo on left (Not moved) forward, it balances about on the wing tube or about 5 3/4" to 6" back from the LE at the fuse.  Does this sound right? Would like ya'll input before I maiden it.
