My LHS has one in, I opened the box and checked it out, Very nice ARF Only thing i dont like is the small wing area, wing load wont be to great on this plane.

I looked on the Horizon site and the wing area has got to be a misprint. I'm no expert but the average cord of the wing at a 68" wingspan would be about 9" at the wing area they have listed. By comparison, the average cord of the Velox Rev II I'm working on is 13.5" and the listed area is 965 for it with a 68" span. The wings would be so skinny it would look like a glider.[X(] They don't look that skinny in the picture. I think the EF Yak had a wing area around 965 as well with a 68" span.
Dealspeed, if you get a chance, the next time you're at the LHS have a look at the wings and see how wide they are. I have a Seagull Harrier 90 and it is a well made plane. This might be a good plane if the area is different from what they say.

The wings were the only thing I didnt look at, there barried in the bottom, According to the Box the wing area is just over 700 I dont think its a missprint.
Ill be at at my LHS later today and check it out again.

I have one that I just opened 2 days ago....haven't started building yet though. It is very well put together.
Wing measurements.......8 1/2" at the tips, 15 9/16" at the fuse. The wing span is correct as listed at 68.2".
The wings look prooprtionally scale........It is a good looking plane.
Will it 3D well......I doubt it....too high of a wing loading. I will do some IMAC type practice with mine. It will probably hover but not much else...but you never know.
I am putting a SuperTigre G-90 in mine until I get my Saito 125. (Have to save up for that one!!!)
Can someone calculate the true wing area from these measurements?
By the listed weight, I have it as approx 26.3 oz/sqft.

If you can put the trailing edges together and make a rectangle I calculate about 816. If you subtract the area the fuse takes up that probably makes the Horizon website correct at 753 square inches.

I thought they included the area of the fuse in the wing area calculation but I don't know. I just looked at the numbers for the Velox Rev II and if you use an average width of 13.5 by 68" including the fuse you get 918 square inches. They post a wing area of 965 SqIn. If the fuse is included the area would be roughly 816 like Propspinner says. If the plane weighs 8 lbs dry it works out to about 22.4 Oz/ft. The right thing to do is for somebody that really knows to build it and fly it and see if it will 3D and leave the calculations to those that know. All we care about is if the thing will fly worth a darn.

I like it! I had a Aeroworks 60/90 size Edge but I sold it, like a dummy, thinking I could buy another. Now they don't make it any more. It's rumored that they are coming out with another that is like a 90/120 size but I don't know it to be true. I'm not interested in hovering but don't want it to be a wimp. I have other planes I can hover with and want cry if they crash. What would be a good two stroke for this one?

I'm putting a Supertigre 90 in it. OS 91 FX or Evo 100 would be good as well...........

I think they do include the fuse area bwtween the wings............I guess we will have to wait and see how it flies!!!!

Money is an issue with what engine I pick also. I don't have good luck with Super Tigre's. Their good engines, I just don't seem to have the touch adjusting them with a pitts muffler installed. Are you going to use a pitts? I have a 61ABC with a pitts that I have installed a perry pump on to improve fuel pressure but I haven't tested it yet. I would prefer not installing a fuel pump or a pitts. Doesn't this plane have room for the stock muffler to go under the fuse? I wish Horizon would pay someone to do a review! I have sooooooooo many questions!

According to the manual, it is set up to be installed at a 45 degree angle with the head down and the muffler out the bottom of the cowl...I haven't checked yet, but according to the pics there is room. If using a pitts muffler, the firewall will have to be re-drilled so the motor can be mounted at a 90 degree angle. There is a large recessed area under the cowl for the muffler to fit into when istalled at 45 degrees.

I was hoping that was true. That saves money on buying a pitts muffler and eliminates the possibility of having tank pressure problems. You could easily install a tuned pipe if more RPM's are desired.

The Seagull Edge has....

b=68.2"
S=753 squares (from manual)

Which give AR=6.18 which is really high for a 3d bird

c=11.04" which is different from what was posted above.

Just clearing up the math, but I would hope for lighter weight and more squares of wing for 3D, sure is good looking though

I have one and flew it for the first time this last weekend. Its one of the best airplanes that I have flown to date. The only trim adjustment was 2 clicks rt. rudder otherwise it flew strait and level. The wing loading seems to be just about right, will have to fly some moreto be sure. Mine is powerd by a OS 91 fx, seems to have plenty of power, will know more once I get the motor fully broke in. All incidences are set at 0 which seems to be pritty good, the only thing that I noticed is that it could use 1or2 degrees of right thrust. The C/G is right on the money for the first flights but will start moveing it back after a few more. I think those that have one will enjoy it, the size is perfect for those that want a larger airplane but dont want the transportation problems of giant scale.

The day I flew it the wind was around 15mph, the plane was very stable and didnt demonstrate any tendancy to tip stall. It lands a lot slower than I thought it would, with the wind it was a bit of a floater on final but very stable. When doing stalls it didnt break until it fully stalled and alls it did was roll off to the left as the nose dropped. One thing I did do on my plane was to move the rudder servo out of the tail forward to the cockpit area and did a pull pull system. Even with doing that and putting the batt. by the fuel tank i had to add about 2oz weight to the end of the prop shaft, so the plane may be just a tad tail heavy. Has anyone balanced theres yet with the rudd. servo in the tail?(how did it come out on the C/G). I did use a graghtech carbon fiber gear so that may have been part of the problem since it is a bit lighter then the gear supplied. One thing I would recomend is using the composit gear, my freind has the seagull laser200 and the alum. gear seems to be a bit on the soft side and bends kind of easy( not much spring or memory to it ). To answer your question its really a *****cat to land and nothing to be nerves about.

How's the vertical with that 91 FX? Since you had to add nose weight I was thinking a 120AX would be a good choice or would it be overkill?
