RE: Quique Somenzini YAK-54S 73"
Ok, guys, having problems with the aileron servo horns:
First of all they two horns I got are not the same shape. One has the hole about 1/8" farther out than the other. I took a picture of it, but it's hard to see:
One horn is longer than the other by almost an 1/8".
I put them next to each other then ran a ruler though the holes so you can see how different they are:
Obviously one of them is off, but when I go to put them in the ailerons the smaller one is off about an 1/8" and the other is off almost a 1/4" if I put them where QQ recommends (1/8" behind the hinge.)
The servo arms fight pretty tight in the slot so either the slots are in the wrong place or the arms are way too long. I could fix it by lengthening the slot but on one side that is going to leave a 1/4" gap. I figured I would post and see what others said before I start cutting and gluing. Any thoughts?

Akschu, are you sure that the elevator horn's are not mixed with the aileron horns?? If not then I agree cut back the slot and fill the rest with epoxy... or try calling QQ. Maybe they will send you two new ones..........EMVIN.........

Hi all - I'm still stuck trying to find a "spool up fast" prop for the YS 140 Sport. I've tried the 17x4 - 17x6 - 18x6w. The larger seems very slow, but the 17" props seem short on power. Does anyone know what "Q" is using on his 83"?

Many people on the 72" thread have suggested the 18x6 menz for the OS 1.60 because of the slow spool up of the apc 18x6w. You might try one of those, they are only $16 at DA.

TedG, I'm not sure what size prop's YS calls for on that engine, but, I know from my own experience that pro cut props typically spool up quicker and achieve higher rpm's than a standard blade of the same size. I have a Saito 180 with a pro zinger 18X6 on my QQ Yak. I tryed the regular Zinger blade with the square tip and was down approximatly 700+/- RPM's. The regular zinger was wider as well. ....EMVIN....

Jolly, with my engine set up (saito 180 tru turn spinner and a pro zinger 18X6) the battery (2700 MA 6V) is set over the fuel tank (24oz)...This plane will hover with ease flat spin no problem and fly inverted hands off and knife edge like an arrow it lands very smooth as well. you are going to really enjoy this one!! Good Luck .......EMVIN.......

yeh i would like to know how the elect set ups are working too. i thought about going electric on mine if the 3W 28 doesn't work out and if it does i might build a 2nd one electric. i was told that batteries would cost between 700. and 800. per pack for that size motor, is that what i should expect?

Hi Emvin,
I had a great deal of thing "stuff" pop up I had to deal with and it pretty much put all my projects on hold...
I do hope to get on it come next week... and I have all the items to get this thing in the air...
I have been reading everyone's posts on a variety of things with interest... looks like it's turning out to be a real winner...
I'm also contemplating doing a 73" with a 1.60 and a tuned pipe.

My yak is just about finished, I'm waiting for the rudder servo to ship (HS-5998MG) then I should be ready to check the CG. I'm running an OS 1.60 with a bisson pits mounted sideways so I'll be trying to get the throttle performance to work like STG's video so it may take a bit of engine tuning before I'm ready to fly. The goal is to madden before I leave on vacation on Aug 4th.

RE: Quique Somenzini YAK-54S 73"
I flew mine for the second time last weekend with the OS160, Perry Pump and Skorepa 18x6 prop. Interesting note: I switched the muffler from the first flight where I used the Bisson to a Slimline (engine mounted sideways with both). I picked up almost 500 rpm tacking an honest 9,000 now. I also lost a couple of ounces of weight. Made a significant improvement in pulling out of a hover vertically.

TTski, so does that mean the OS 160 gets a thumbs up?.....I started using a perry pump as well.. It made a significant difference in power. about 500+/- rpm's. I took me a while to get it tuned properly and that included a deadstick landing...It's a good thing our field has tall cat tails (weeds) surounding it. they make for good air brakes

RE: Quique Somenzini YAK-54S 73"
Hopefully going for the maiden tommorrow. To get mine balanced at 174mm my battery had to be located on the tray just behind the throttle servo, which meant i've saved weight by removing the tray under the cowl. Seems odd to me, as the YS is slightly lighter than the 1.60FX, probably very close by the time you add the weight of my central hobbies muffler. Most of you guys seem to have your packs up front?
