RE: Quique Somenzini YAK-54S 73"
Hello everyone. I have a tail wheel question...
It comes with a tail wheel setup, but I know there is an aftermarket system that reduces the stress on the rudder/servo maybe with a spring or something. Can anyone provide good suggestions for the 73" and if so, would you happen to have any photos for installation...
Thanks
Michael

I have this set up on my yak and several other planes. Works great.

The difference is not immediately visible but the one for 10-22 lb planes has a thicker 3/32" diameter spring steel axle and maintains it's shape better, especially if you'll be doing harrier landings.
The pictures show the 10-22 lb Sullivan bracket mounted on my 76-inch, 10.75 lb Ultra RC Giles 202.

One other question....
I am looking at various servo extension wires. Does it matter which brand I get... JR, Futaba, HiTech? don't they have the same connections?

Hitec and Futaba connectors are interchangeable. I dont think the JR connector will fit without some forcing.
It's best to use heavy duty wires if you are using high torque servos or long runs. I think they classify anything larger than or equal to 20 gauge as heavy duty. (remember the smaller, the number the bigger the wire dia)

THese servos are a little on the big side. You should target about 130 oz in of torque. Check out the hitec 5645, these are metal gear, digital and high torque

Rezagh:
Molly suggested I contact you.
Because she was out of the purple 73" kits, She set up the pieces and sent them to me at a better price. During the course of building I discovered some missing parts. So far she has had all of them except the 4 blocks that are glued to the engine box to receive the cowl screws. She looked into a new YAK that just arrived for the parts and those 4 blocks are not there. What can we do? Is there a new way to screw down the cowl..
Thanks
Also, will those wing pins really hold the wing on?
Thanks
Michael

Michaelvg11,
I run nothing but Hitec servos but I would stay away from the HS-5645MG servos. They develope slop in the gears in a very short period of time. I have two planes that I currently fly that are new with the HS-5645MG servos and I have less than a dozen flights on each and I'm replacing the servos already. I would look at the HS-5945MG or the HS-5985MG. They are a much better servo for your money.

Thanks but the first one is discontinued and the second is way too much money for one servo and the second looks like it is not strong enough....

Another Question....
The packet with the wing pins comes with some fish wire or something like that. What is it for?
Thanks

Question...
I am reviewing the nuts and bolts.. etc. for the landing gear and wheels but it's not clear. Not sure which ones go to the landing gear and the fuse...
Any help any pictures? They come with small black allen wrench screws but they do not look strong enough for the landing gear...

Michaelvg11,
The first sevos I listed has not been discontinued. [link=http://www.servocity.com/]Servo City[/link] has them but they are sold out right now. All the servos have about the same torque. Not really sure what your looking at or where. The so called "fishing line" can only be one thing, the cable for the pull-pull system for the rudder.

Some great info guys. Thanks...
Towerhobbies listed them as Discont...
That's fine. I picked up some good ones...
Thanks for tip with the fishing line. That's a good idea.
Now, I just hope I can get a hold of some cowl blocks.... That's the only part I am missing. Worst case I will have to have them made, but this is a great building plane.

Anyone built or flown the new 73 yak 54? 7-2007?
How has the current one been working?
Is there any pull to the belly during rolls?

Another Question...
Gas is out of the question because I do not have a safe place to store the fuel, plus I can't have my townhouse smell like gas...
This means I am down to GF. What are you guys going with? I don't want too big but I don't want too small. I am not a hovering kind of guy yet. I know Qui Que recommends a few GF engines and I know I definitely want a 4 stroke. Why is OS so cheap compared to YS and Saito? IS everyone going with the YS?
Also, what six volt receiver battery do you recommend? IS the standard one that comes with futaba ok? OR is there a better brand?
Thanks for you help again.
Michael

Micheal
I think that you need to 1st know the difference between a 4-stroke and 2-stroke GF IC engine. That is the reason for the price difference.... A OS1.60 FX is a 2-stroke... Alll the Saito and YS engines are 4-stroke.... More parts and more milling ext... =cost more to make..
I think that to go into all the details here would be going off topic.. I think that you may want to puch in some rcuniverse searches about glow engines, batteries and power requirements for a aerobatic plane vrs. a sport plane...
Read some things about that stuf and then when you get a little more info about the IC Glow engines we can talk... welcome to PM me if you like...

RE: Quique Somenzini YAK-54S 73"
I know the difference bewtween the two, but just did not catch that. Did not realize it was a two stroke so that is out.... No wonder...
I have been looking closely at the Saitos and probably going with the 150 or 180....
Thanks for the info.
Not too many people are on this board anymore, so I have had time to review specs for the plane.
Thanks again for the helpful tips.

RE: Quique Somenzini YAK-54S 73"
Michael, I would suggest going with the YS 140 as it has a fuel pump built in. This plane needs one as the tank is set back over the CG. Thats alot of fuel line for a pumpless engine. I had the 73 for the past year ( until about 2 weeks ago. was begining to think I was Somenzini doing 3D very low ) and ran both the saito 180 and 220 on this plane. They both performed very well but needed a perry pump. The YS 140 is around the same power as the saito 180 (maybe even more powerful). I'm pretty sure thats the engine this plane was designed around. Good Luck....EMVIN....
