Default World Models Extra 300S and ZDZ 40

Hey all,
I was wondering what this combo would be like. (world models 80 inch extra 300s and zdz 40)

I really want wall-to-wall 3d performance and the whole 9 yards. My original engine choice was the zdz 50, but after doin some research, seems it has unlimited vertical on a RCS 1.80 and is thought to be a rocketship on a zdz 40. Just wanted to hear what you all have to say.

If you look at this months Modelsport video magazine , You will find that john did a review and build on this very same plane . He put on a 3w 50.
In the video even the 50 wasn't a real monster on that plane. He really doesn't do any 3d stuff when he flys but you can see the vertical within some of his imac maneuvers.
I think the episode is 0503. http://www.modelsport.com/

Default WM 300 will not 3D

I have a WM 300 with a os 1.60
this model Will not 3d!!!! i have tried everything and will not do anything but scale aerobatics.
first it is heavy,, second,, the wing loading is high. and it simply isnt designed for it,, the wing is relativly thin.

when you do a hard pull up the nose raises momentairly then falls,, then raises again and falls some,, basically it enters an accelerated stall immediatl with a hard pull up.
i have added another 2 degrees thrust offset, and it still needs lots of rt rudder in verticle,, also hard to hover.
dont get me wrong,, its a fun plane,, but not for 3d flying.

ALEX 24,, do you have one?? if so please report how it does,, i am an experienced flier both pattern and 3D,, so im not new to it,, and this is by far the worst model ive had trying to do 3D.
my modified ultrastik does 500% better than the wm 300!!

What propeller are you using?
Have you tried an 18x6?

Default wm no 3D

its not the prop making the airplane not doing 3D
its simply the aerodynamics,, it accelerate stalls easily,, wing loading high,, does not slo fly,, only performs with speed,, wing drops even in a loop where speed decreases at top!!??
its fun but it has to be flown fast,, even on landing if it gets slow it starts dropping like a brick!
rudder authority is poor.
its just plainly a sport plane
nothing like my dp 330!!
i guess a thicker wing would do wonders,, oh well it looks good though!!

I test flew a WM Extra with a Brison 2.4 and found it capable of doing basic 3D maneuvers. Blenders, Walls, Elevators, torque rolls (though anything can do that) were all easy to accomplish. The biggest limitation was power: it took nearly full power to torque roll, so there was no reserve for a pull out. I'm not too good at Harriers so I can't comment on them. Flat spins were nice and flat, and it does a beautiful inverted flat. In my opinion it flies sequences better than my DP Extra but doesn't 3D quite as well. But it will do it.

I think Alex24 is talking about his Midwest extra, but I could be wrong. I'm almost done with my Midwest Extra, can't wait to see how it performs.

Jeff, the guy that owns the airplane goes by the handle here of BigBird Flyer. He knows more about his plane than I do, although I can say that the elevator and rudder throws were around 35-40 degrees or so. I thought it would need more but it was pretty good the way it was. He just pulled the Brison 2.4 and has a ZDZ 50 that will be going in for springtime. As a thought, his engine was installed inverted, so his lateral balance must have been almost perfect. Have you laterally balanced yours?

Jeff, I fly Beavers out of Lake Washington during the summers. It is a real blast, but when you're flying RC you get to hang out with your friends and fly at the same time.
