Default NEW Hanger9 27% Cap 232G!!!! Build Thread!!!

Hey guys I thought i would start a thread on this one. I just got it yesterday and my overall opinion of the kit is very high. Quality is some of the best i have seen. Very well built!! The wing tube has me stumped as to why they filled it with wood. I know its extreemly stong but its heavy!!! Im putting a DA50 in it with 8611A servos. I hope she flies as good if not better then my old 25% cap with the same setup. Ill try to update pics as often as possible and plan on starting construction this weekend.

If you can keep it at 15 pounds or less, it should be a good flyer. I will be truly disappointed if these things come in at 17.5 pounds with a DA on them - anything with more than a 28 ounce wingloading on a plane this size flies like a tank, and 28 ounces is pushing it! I'd like to see one of these at 13-14 pounds with the DA. Gonna need a CF tube, CF landing gear, CF spinner, stock muffler instead of pitts muffler, no choke servo, no matchboxes, no heavy batteries, no powerboxes, and no pilot to even get it close, I bet...keep us informed.

If it has foam core wings, then that is why it has the wood on the ends of the wing tube.

Is the whole tube filled with wood or just the tips?

no foam core here!! I will do the best i can to keep it as light as possible! It will be my imac plane for next year because of the unfotunate loss of my 25% cap. if it flies near as good as that thing did with its 31oz wing loading (14Lbs 73in wing) then i will be impressed.

the tips are plugged but i believe there is a wood stringger that runs the length of the tube. If you smack it in your hand it makes a ting noise like if you hit something solid so i am assuming that it runs the length of the tube

Well guys ill post some pics later of what i have completed but i hate to tell ya i have had a really crazy week at work and havent gotten much done. I did get a chance to weigh the wing tube. It weighed in at 7.5oz!! To me that way to heavy for a wing tube so i think that when the budget allows i will be getting a carbon tube!

Till later

Hey guys,
I think I'll carry this wing tube under the seat of my truck. Its heavier than the billy club I've got under there now!

yeah that would be a good use for it!

Well im waiting on a new stab right now. I was sliding everything together and had a factory glue joint break in the L/H elevator half and im not going to cut it open and repair it! I do have all the servos installed now and plan on beginning the hinging process tomarrow

Here are some new pics! The tail wheel assembly is awesome! It weighs about the same as the carbon fiber one i have for my old 25% cap.

I was impressed by how fast this plane goes together. Alot of the slow painfull things are already done. I'm gonna try to miaden it this next weekend. Hope this Evolution 58 doesn't have it under powered!...........By the way it comes in at just over 17lbs even with the huge motor and eight lb. wing tube. The only weight saving I did was to go with LI-ion's, no power box and one reciever. I did add a choke servo just cause I'm lazy. One more thing to note is that you don't have to get worried about putting weight out front, this thing is tail heavy even with a pull/pull system.

I took everything out of the box yesterday and weighed it.

Everything that will go in the air that came in the box weighs 9.25 pounds.

I think thats pretty light, eh?

I think so!! Im shooting for 16-17Lbs when im done. Im going with a carbon tube and spinner, lipo for the radio and no choke servo. The only weight im adding will be for a pilot as this will be my imac plane for next year. (yes i know they arent going to require a pilot next yr) and some decals for the coweling.

marv422 where did you place your reciever and batteries? I know caps generaly end up tail heavy and am not really wanting to put the reciever and batt where they recomend. I just want to get an idea as to where to mount it saying that the DA is around 1Lb lighter then the Evolution 58. Keeps us posted on how she flies!

The receiver is just behind the rudder servo (pull/pull) and the li-ions I got creative with. Rather than adding weight to the nose and with no good place to stickum without getting in the way of the wing bolts, I added a support to the hatch cover just in front of the canopy. Now when I take the hatch off the batts come with it. It will make them easy to charge at the field, but the jury is still out as to whether I'll leave them here or not. Mount everything as far foward as you can on this bird. I'll try to post pics when I get home (traveling in Florida on business).

Really? I was thinking/hoping they would come in less than that. I have the old H9 80” Alitalia Cap on the bench at the moment. I’ve added up everything I’ve got for it and it looks it should come in around 15.5lb’s with a ZDZ 50.

I havent heard of many of the old altima cap's coming in at less then 16-17Lbs with a DA in them. This plane is also a 2 peice wing so its going to be a little heavier

Not really. Now add 1 pound for batteries (average), 1 pound for servos, 4 pounds (minimum) for an engine, 1/2-3/4 pound for the prop and spinner, and another 1/4 pound in misc. electronics and you are sitting at 16-1/4 pounds. And that is not accounting for fudge-factor or other unnecessary weight (like choke servos, powerboxes, matchboxes, pilots, smoke, etc.) people will be adding to this plane. Looks like the average will be 16.5 + which is a 30 ounce wingloading - my 35%er has a 30 ounce wingloading! That's a bit on the porky side for this size of plane. That's not to say that there's no hope for this plane. I think you could get 15.5 with some strategic equipment choices and some extra money - still not a floater in my book, though, but not terrible...

Mines under 14 lbs. with a BME 44. Jury is still out on this one. Want to get it for the 2 piece wing, waiting on final weights.
