35% Carden Cap232 problems
I have a real good flying Carden Cap. It does alot of nice manuvers, but every time I try to hover it pulls very hard towards the landing gear. I heard if you add alittle up thrust, that will come out of it. Is this true? I am also wanting to work on harriers as well. I have seen some great pics of these caps doing some nice stuff.
Thanks Todd

Todd,
Pulling to the gear out of a hover is a sign of too much down thrust but you need to properly check that first. There are a couple of ways to verify this.
Fly straight and level about 1/2 throttle into the wind, then chop the throttle abruptly. Watch the plane carefully when you chop it. If the plane continues to fly level then slowly starts to drop the nose, the upthrust is fine. If the plane raises the nose upthrust is needed. How quickly it raises the nose determines how much upthrust is needed. If the plane drops the nose sharply then down thrust is needed.
Another way is pull vertical and climb and be absolutely sure the wings are level when pulling to the vertical. Do not correct for anything as the plane climbs, just let it climb. If you need upthrust, you will start to see the plane pull to the gear as it slows down, this will also show you if you need any right/left thrust as well. You want the plane to track straight up without doing anything.
You have a very nice Cap. I'm a huge Cap fan. I've never owned the Carden version but have flown one of these showing someone how to do trim flights Once properly trimmed, she is a beauty.
I've been looking at some of the used ones in the marketplace lately and seriously considering one

RE: 35% Carden Cap232 problems
The plane flies great. I have a couple hundred flights on it. I am just thinking about getting into some 3D stuff and When I try it doesnt want to do it.
I am going to take it out today. I will see how it acts.
Thanks Todd

I adjusted the thrust by adding some up thrust(or taking some down out). It flew even better. No elevator coupling anymore on knife edges. It flies even better. Hovers are alot less effortless.
And yes, being Andrew Jeskys old cap helps alot LOL!

That's great to hear and I'm surprised Andrew flew it like that, you'd think he'd want it perfect

Yeah,
Andrews and my skill levels are on two different pages. I bought it as a complete package with radio and everything. I was glad to see there wasnt any mixing in it to correct anything. He does it all with his fingers. I found some pictures of him with it when it was first built on Cardens website. The first picture is of it now. The others will be show Andrew when he was just a little guy flying it.

I also recieved paper work with this when I bought it. I have a 3w80 twin on it and most people cant believe how it flies. Its also a modified TOC version. It is as strong as 3w100 I have seen. I have the original reciept sold by Dave Johnson of DA to Tim Jesky for a 3w80 Wienhold Special Toc for $1455 on 8/13/97. I love that motor. I would hate to know how many gallons are through it over the years. I know I have a couple hundred flights on it.

Not the first time I have heard or seen something like that. I think sometimes those guys are so good that they correct for things and dont even notice it. Then when a human takes the sticks they find it difficult to manage.
