55" WS 3D Hobbyshop Extra 300SHP Build & Fly Log
3DHobbyshop.com and Scott Stoops have partnered once again to bring another masterpiece. Any of you guys who've had the pleasure of flying the [link=https://server14.kproxy.com/servlet/redirect.srv/p5.p1.pbcd.p3nsaopniygi.pxkj/detail.aspx?ID=1996]47" Extra SHP[/link] will certainly love the [link=https://server14.kproxy.com/servlet/redirect.srv/p5.p1.pbcd.p3nsaopniygi.pxkj/detail.aspx?ID=2098]55" Extra SHP[/link]. I have personally seen it in action and flown the preproduction model. I have never seen this much power, whether in an electric, glow, or gas. Not only that, but built stock, it weighs 4 lb 12 Oz. There really isn't anything like it on the market thus far. Here are some teaser pics and video
[link=https://server14.kproxy.com/servlet/redirect.srv/p5.p1.pbcd.pamrdbiei.puhg/forums/showatt.php?attachmentid=1318388]Video 1[/link]
That's me saying "That's power" in the beginning, and "Holy Cow!!" at 1:46. This bird will litteraly rocket into the sky, accelerating vertically all the way up. It's built tough also to handle the punishment of harsh 3D flying, as Ben loves to do full power blenders. There are two in the video, and he typically does at least 1-2 per flight.
The specs on the plane listed
* Wingspan: 55 inches
* Wing Area: 640 square inches
* Weight: 4.5-5.5 lbs. ounces (most will come under 5 lbs. This is an honest to God accurate)
The setup as flown in the video is:
1. Torque Revolution 4014-T570 motor
2. AirBoss 80 Elite ESC
3. APC 15x7E prop
4. 3DHobbyShop 5S 20C 4400mah pack
Some of the notable features include
1. The "Stoops" wing, a thin airfoil that will break cleanly (producing rock free harrier flights), as well as good high speed handling.
2. CF wing tube (over engineered on purpose to handle all those punishing blenders) and 2 piece removable wing
3. Lightweight with power to boot (around 300 watts / lb as shown in the video)
4. Curved aluminum landing gear with axles and 3DH "locking" wheels pants
5. Ball-link and phenolic-horn control hardware
6. Spring-loaded canopy-hatch latch to keep the canopy secure, while making battery changes easy.
7. Fiberglass wheel pants and cowling.
On top of the great plane and setup, Ben is a great guy. You can call him at
830-990-6978. Alternatively, you can PM him on the "other" site also . His handle is Blucor Basher.
He is very knowledgeable, experienced, and flies great to boot. Since he likes to huck, his product and his recommended setup is sure to huck as well .

Yep, even though the video hasn't shown the full breadth of the plane's flight envelope. Ben has tried simulated pylon racing with this one, and it looks pretty good as a pylon racer. Just drop the 15x7 for 13x10 .

I love electrics and this one looks sweet. Only problem is, once you get into this size plane, the gear starts getting into the high rent district. 5S 4400 lipo will run over $200. If you want to fly for a while without having to wait on the charger, you'll need three of them. So by the time you get the plane outfitted and batteries bought, you're looking at ~$900. That's assuming you have a suitable charger, balancer, etc. Having said that, I still like it and if you have the dough, more power to ya!

How does this compare to flitons extra freestyle or fliton edge 540 freestyle?? I like this one alot more because of the price Also, have you guys tried using an 6s pack in it yet?

This plane will typically come in 8 oz lighter than the Fliton's because it's built for electrics. 6S packs will work, but with the lower weight, it's better optimized for the 4S / 5S setup. If you already have a 6S setup, just get the frame, and get the power system separately.
However, if you're like me and your 6S packs are really past their prime, 3DH is going to have a combo that is going to be hard to resist. They're also bringing in a line of 20C 4400 battery for 139 dollars. Talk about all in one type of customer support.
I think once we get the early release, we'll set up one with the typical 6S setup (AXI 4130/16), just to show you that it'll fly well even with the 6S setup.

I was fortunate enough to have Ben airship me one of the production planes right as the rest of them are leaving by boat to get a build thread started.
The packaged came in tripple boxed, just like all 3DH planes. This thing will withstand abuses by the men in brown for sure (short of the truck backing in on the plane itself ).
Everything is nicely bagged and properly placed.
The pre-orders should ship pretty soon. I was told by Ben that the shipment is on schedule .

Taking the parts from the plastics and lining them up. Everything is straight and true, no wrinkles noted on the covering. Life is good .

RE: 55" WS 3D Hobbyshop Extra 300SHP --AWESOME
This is an awesome plane. I have had nothing but great experiences with Ben at 3Dhobbyshop myself. I am going to get one of these now that the motor and ESC combo is available. I am planning on using 5S 3850 Thunder Power Extremes with the recommended Torque motor set up.
Do you know what brand of 5S batteries Ben is bringing in at $140. That is an extremely good price if they hold up. I am sure he is going to only sell good batteries. Please keep up the build thread over here on RCU.

Adam,
Are you going with the blue scheme or this scheme? This plane will be a MONSTER on TPX 3850. As for the batt, they're currently on hold as they ended up being a bit bigger in dimension than the previous version. Besides, Ben is totally swamped with running 3DH as well as with new stuff that's coming .

Some innovative tidbits here. There are more, but here's a small sample of them
1. The hinges are pre-glued on one side, making installation a breeze
2. The wheel pants are notched so it keys in perfectly. You don't need screws on this one at all (though it's provide for you )
3. There's a string pre-attached to the servo entry to facilitate that painful process of trying to thread your servo wire down .

Sweet plane for sure guys!! I am looking forward to the build Josh and eventual flights on this great new offering from 3D Hobby Shop's. If you guys haven't flown any of the 3D Hobby Shop ARF's they are pretty AWESOME. I am sure this one will be a winner as well. Thanks for the thread Josh!!
