Default What engine for Wild Hare Edge 540 73"

Hi All,

I have the 73" span edge 540, had about 15 flights with it now and not quite happy with the power. I spent a lot of time getting the geometry right and I have to say the plane is superb! So impressed that it flys inverted with very little down elevator, I mean next to nothing!!

Anyway, I have a saito 180 in it but it's not got enough grunt, think it needs to pull around 20lbs of thrust, it pulls 14lbs now. I would like it to have the power to harrier and prop hang on no more than half power. Around 1.7:1 power to weight.

wing area 1120 in2
weighs 10 3/4 lbs (with the saito 180, all up dry weight)
span 73"

The engines I'm considering are a ys 160dz, saito 220 and a petrol version, zdz 40. I would like to keep it light so I'm aware of the gain in weight with a petrol engine but would I really notice??

I just looked up the rvc 130 and it only has 2 hp and swings small props. I'm looking for 3.5hp to 4hp.
Thanks anyway.

You could try the new Brillelli www.brillelli.com 26 weights close to a OS 160 and turns a 16x8 out of the box at 9600.. 18x6 will be prob 8500 or so.

With that type of wing area even if you hit 12 poiunds it will still fly well. Look at the review for the EF 74 Yak similar weight / wing area with a Brillelli 46 it was a rocket.. I would say it was more than just overpowered

Depends what type of flying you want to do really.
