Default Funtana X 100: Engine Suggestions

I recently ordered and recieved a Funtana X 100, and am debating what engine to run in it. I am looking for a good engine for fuel consumption, power, and weight. I either want to go 4 stroke or gas. I would like to know if anyone has experience with a Zenoah 26cc gas engine or something in the 26cc range.

Thanks Joe

Have you looked at the X100 thread at all? I know its long, but anything you need to know is in there. If its for 3D the OS 120AX seems work for most people or a Saito 125 seems to be the minimum for 4 strokers.A YS 110 and 140 are also used, some have used 25-30cc gassers with sucess, but with mods and pipes.

I had a Funtana 90 and now own the Funtana x 100 and I have used a Saito 1.50 on both. I feel it's a perfect match. I have flown and seen flown the Funtana with the saito 1.25 but the 1.50 is a better choice.

i have the AX120 on mine.
don't go gas on this plane-not for 3d.
that bird know how to rocking the sky with the AX120 .
i flew the funtana 90 with saito 120 and ys 110 both of don't give the preformance that the AX do.
the X100 is much much better from the old 90.
if you'll go gas forget about rolling harriars in place!
you only read dry whight (what with the batt? mybe rigulator? standoffs and more...)
i never go gas on this plane.
if you want to go gas--> you'll have to get a different bird
belive me, install the AX120 with a XOAR 16X6 wood and you'll get the best preformance !!!
if you have any question you can PM or messenger me
[email protected]
please, don't go gas or even 4 stroke...(!)

by the way ....
zenoah is one of the lazy and heavy engines in the market.
i had a great 40 cc gas that output lots of power and very light whight engine.
the guy who sell them call ADAM-this is a great man !
i know he have some 26cc gas with an electrical ignition and like the 40cc--> this engine should be lighter than lots of the other 26cc's on market...
this is the link to his ONLINE STORE
i sold this engine with my 40cc bird to a friend and after an year (+/-) the engine work just like the first start!!!

There is plenty of good 4 strokes to put on it.Not everyone loves the whining of a 2 stroker.

if you looking for the best preformance you should go on the AX.
we have to remember, the funtana is not a scale plane and much more not a gas plane!
this bird is a very large SHOCK FLYER

Are you kidding me?? Lets try to help this member out and not divert to weird suggestions. He should just buy a different plane if he decides to go with gaser and not even think about 4 strokes?

Yeah I have a problem with that remark right there. So what your saying is just use the 120 2 stroker and thats all. 2 stroke period. 2 and 4 strokes are different animals all together and the power is at different rpms. I will take 4 stroke over a 2 stroke any day on a 3D plane. I feel there is more useful power at any rpm.

I fly mine with YS 120 and love it. Nice combo and couldn't be happier with it. I don't know about the 26cc gaser but wouldn't mind trying it out and see how it works. There many options to go with as far as power. Heck you could even go electric.

lemmerjo- I would put on what feels best to you.

you didn't get me well.
i saw this bird with all engines, best combo was with the AX.
NO i don't say that the 4 stroke are NOT GOOD WITH THIS BIRD but i do think that if you looking for the best preformance you should go 2 stroke.
i know many pilots love 4 stroke engines and i have to say that this engines are OK for this plane. not the best, what good for you don't have to be the best prefprmance (!)
i do belive that the AX can take this bird to the best preformance.
let's help to this member-gas is not the best choice for the X100 is that correct?
sorry if you guys get me wrong about 4 stroker, thay fly just well.
tamir.

I think best performance is in the persons own opinion what he or she thinks works for them on their own plane.

Like you say 2 strokes are best for this plane. I dont think so at all. To me 4 strokes are. I have flown first hand with both and not just seen this combo before. Plus I like the sound of a 4 stroke over a bumble bee 2 stroke. That should be the only reason right there.... 4 strokes sound better! hehe

Lemmerjo,
Just scan through the FuntanaX thread and all of your questions will be answered.
Including the mine engine is better than yours opinions. Most if not all of the suggested engines listed for this plane are good in there own way.

thx Dave

Thanks for all of the input guys. I am still not sure about which engine to go with. I want to stay away from 2 stroke after running 4 strokes in other planes. The only concern with a 1.50 is fuel consumption. How long of flight times can I expect out of a Saito 1.25 - 1.80 with a stock Funtana X 100 tank? And also, how would a YS 110 be on this plane, is there enough power there to pull out of a hover, or is there some to be desired.

Thanks, Joe

The YS110 will have plenty to pull this bird. I would say its about equivalent to Saito 150 maybe a tad less. I love YS because they have the power of a larger engine but in a smaller size. the 110 would be lighter by like 5 oz i think also

I have a 100x with a saito 125 on it. This is a good combo but to get the plane to balance out I had to add 8 ounces of lead to the nose because it is so tail heavy. I'm going to buy a saito 180 this weekend because it is 8 ounces heavier than the 125. Add horsepower instead of lead. I have read on a lot of threads about this an have found the 180 saito was used a lot to get the plane to balance out perfect. You can also use a OS 120 surpass 4 stroker because it is also 8 ounces heavier but cost just as much as a 180 saito.

Hope this was some help

The 125 will do nicely, most people dont have to add weight, you can balance with the battery. The Saito 150 or YS 120 would be perfect. The saito 180 is way too much for the airframe, I tried one for a while. If you go 2 stroke, the OS 120 AX would be good, but why would you go 2 stroke? I fly mine with a 125, Zinger 16x5 prop, on 15% fuel and it does just fine.

Not sure why people have so much trouble balancing aircraft,I have had a few where I ended up putting some weight in the tail and or shifting components back after test flights. Then some people build the identical aircraft with the same or bigger motor and end up with loading up the nose with a pound of lead...

I just pulled an Enya 120R off mine and replaced it with an O.S. 91 surpass I already had. It flew OK with the enya, but that motor weighs nearly double what the O.S. does(I held both, amazing difference) Though the Enya pulled alot harder, I had to put the battery in the very back of the tail to get it to CG right. Then, when I pulled a tight loop, it wanted to roll out to the right every time(the side the motor stuck out on). I think a Saito 1.00 would be ideal. Plenty of power, and it only weighs 20 ounces. Mine balanced out pretty well with the battery in the nose just behind the tank. I'm trying to sell a P-51 so I can get a Saito...

Huh?...........Saito Fa-125: 21.87oz O.S. 1.20AX: 22.82oz
2.20Hp 3.10Hp
I think maybe what you mean is 2strokes have better P/w ratio?
But a 4 stroke Torque Curve is Flatter ,2 strokes are Fine, but the modern 4stroke has come a long way..........an ya gotta love the SOUND!

I have and old Surpass 120 on mine ( no pump) ,well its old but just broke in.Here is a clip of it with APC 16x6 at sea level. The plane was still new to me,so the flying is low risk stuff.
Its not loads of power but enough to have fun and do most general 3D tricks. It balanced just fine too.The pumped one should have a bit more punch.

OK, as we can see, tamir loves 2 strokers and We3R loves 4 strokers. As for me, I like both 2 and 4 strokers. Let's just leave it at that.
