Hey Slyder,
Seems like you (just like me) did not receive the horns for the surfaces. I think version 2 is missing them in all the boxes. I had to drive up there again and get the version 1 horns. Also, I did not receive any axels in my plane.

RE: nitro models 50cc yak??? the good/bad/ugly???
Yea..on this version they supplied screws to put through the surfaces but put plates in for the other horns instead of installing hardpoints.
Be nice to live close enough to drive there and get the right parts. LOL
For the rudder i put a 3/8's dowel in for a HP and drilled through. The rest i just drilled and CA'd and put the screws in. Time will tell Looks like crap but intend to not be too nice to it anyways.
Stabs and wings dont line up like they should either. Must be why the others cost more. Ohwell....took a year off from the hobby so this will be my calm the nerves plane.
Hopefully Ralph will get the carb and parts i need sent monday so i can get this pig done.

the control horns look good. Are they cut out of carbon fibre?? didn't get any goodies like that with mine. Here in Saskatchewan we had a small snow storm today and recieved a bit of snow[:@]. and rain. makes for great driving conditions. All week is to be above 0 celcius +2 to +5 runway is almost cleared off can't wait as i am real tired of flying foamys.

Slyder,
Mine came out spot on and maybe slightly nose heavy with a DA 50 and metal geared servos in the rear.

Well - the entertainment value of the "Chinglish" in the manual alone was worth the price of admission. Make sure you inspect every joint - found some with none or very little glue (joint pulled away with a slight tug). Got the new version with different hardware (no axles?), elevator servos in the fuse, canister tunnel and cowl ring. The manual doesn't show how to deal with the ring. All the other "undocumented" changes I can deal with. I'll kit bash it like I usually do and borrow methods from the other manufacturers.

RE: nitro models 50cc yak??? the good/bad/ugly???
I deadsticked mine a couple of weeks ago(yellow one). I landed fast and hard in the corn field. The prop and pitts muffler were not hurt so it wasn't too bad. The gear ripped out. That was easy to fix. The firewall also came loose. I made another one out of 1/4" ply. The stock firewall ply had 3 layers with a 1/8" cap piece. The two were not glued together very well. The 3 ply had a soft layer in the middle like balsa which separated the two outer layers. I made a new one and glued it back 1/4" and glued triangle stock in front of it. I glued 1" squares to put the engine back in the same spot. I am impressed how well it held up to hitting hard. That soft firewall saved my muffler. I have Futaba S9206 on the wings and tail and the big S9251 on the rudder. Prior to the firewall repair I put two washers at the bottom two standoffs. Probably changed the down thrust up one degree. I had real bad knife edge tuck and I could cut the throttle to idle and just float suspended into the breeze. Now it flies alot better. With a DA-50 and Vess 23A I love it. If it got totalled I would buy another in a heartbeat.

Mine is mostly done. Waiting on Ralph to send me a new carb and block, then final ballance and secure everything.Decided to give the stock hinges a try. Will see how they hold.
Came out a little tailheavy. To ballance the ign batt is on motor box and rx batt is on top of tank. You can see on the rudder my hack job at putting a hardpoint in. Again not worried about looks as this plane will be abused.
BTW- Like the work bench Good thing my wife loves me. It has been sitting in the livingroom for a few weeks now. We got hooked on WOW a year ago and I built 4 computers so we could all play. What use to be my work shop now has 3 of the systems in there. LOL

Looking good Slyder - except for that "tree" growing out of your rudder!
The cowl ring design was poorly thought out - it hits the triangle stock used to reinforce the motor box (nothing a razor saw/dremel/teeth can't fix). After that adventure I noticed that if I use the ring as-is, there's NO WAY I can install the cowl and cowl ring with a canister installed. You'd have to cut the ring's half moon off. Pictures forthcoming as soon as my son relinquishes my digital camera.
The balance of my parts to finish this plane should be here this week hopefully - still waiting on word back on the canister, haven't heard a peep out of RC Showcase after many messages and a couple emails.
Cheers!

RE: nitro models 50cc yak??? the good/bad/ugly???
Be careful gluing the pin hinges on the stabs - they went in too deep with the drill and popped a hole into the stab tube socket. I use Gorilla glue and the foaming action filled in that portion of the stab!!! Can't get the stab tube inserted fully...[:@] Same thing could happen with epoxy, but not as "full".
So now I'm trying to re-socket the stabs -ugh- and in the meanwhile order some replacements. Not happy right now.

db, had the same issue with mine. Drilled right through!

I was able to ream out the glue with a drill bit, took out a fair bit of the cardboard socket with the glue but it's workable. Ironic part is I'll probably use Gorilla and some ingenuity to fill in those voids. How much more expensive are phenolic sockets than cardboard anyway?
RCS finally got back to me - got a "tuned" canister on its way. Dooley said JMB tweaked the can to work better with the long wrap around header.
Feeling better.

Canister finally got here - it's the new JMB "TR50" according to Mike D. at RCS - a "tuned" canister. Still got a ways to go, but with my job, domestic crap (single dad) and little things like eating and sleeping slow me down.

I bought the control horns for the 88" EF Yak...lite fiber....I was looking at TBM CF wing tubes and cant figure whats up with the two sizes (inches and mm) and the price difference....
!.00" x 36" .042 wall is 34.95 bucks and the 25mm x 920mm .75mm wall is 29.95.....arent these the same size?
