Default extreme 3d plane for os .46ax?

hey guys, my twist met its end this morning and am now on the search for a great 3d plane. I do harriers, torque rolls, knifes, ect and am looking for a good plane that will be well powered with my .46. I know theres tons of .463d planes but every one always says to either put a .70 4 stroke or a .61 2 stroke, i don't have that and am just looking for a good 3d plane with good pullout for my .46. any suggestions? thanks, Spence

Check out Ohio Model Products, or google Profile Brotherhood. A profile is the way to go in this size range if your serious about 3D. OMP Edge V3 arf is a great choice, or check out the MOJO line. I had a twist also, it was a lot of fun, learned a lot, but hated the roll coupling and it was fragile when learning down on the deck stuff. A MOJO or OMP Edge can actually be dorked into the ground from 20ft up and not be destroyed. The old twist would break in two from a hard harrier landing. Its not in the same leauge as a good profile for seriously learning 3d. The profiles are also much more durable, that alone makes a huge difference. Full fuselage and real 3d capability is hard to find in the 46 size range.

I agree with the profile. I am just finishing up my Mojo build. I have an OS 55 on mine but I have heard of people having success with the 46. The pro bros are a great group of people and will help you out with any profile questions you may have. I just joined recently and they are great!! You can also post in the Profile section here on RCU and get some help too.

At least get the 15$ Tower 46 muffler for your 46 engine, you will be amazed by the power boost it gives. I use one myself on my XLS 52 in my OMP Katana profile and it is great

Mojo Baybeee!
No tube, no love.

Your .46 with a tower muffler and a 12.25x3.75 APC will work great!

well, iv looked into the mojo and im sure its the highest quallity model and probably the best performing, but unfortunatly im in a bit of a financial crisis right now (19 and just figured out credit cards are dangerous.... three grand later, lol). So any how, are there any profile arfs that cost a bit less? thanks

I'll just echo what a few others have already said.

MOJO!!!

The only thing thats gonna be light enough to punch out is a profile and the MOJO is supposed to be one of the best. I ordered my first MOJO last week . Should be here any day now. I got the MOJO 60 and will be powering it with a TH .75 engine.

If I was you, I'd get the MOJO40 and order the Tower .46 muffler for your engine. That should be a real nice combination. LOTS of guys doing it, so your not alone if you have questions. It's not a hard build. Anybody can frame a wing and a few sticks for the fuselage.

Look ya up a Phoenix funstar, its only $99 and its almost all done for ya right out of the box. I have one of'em with a 46 ax on it an fly the heck out of it. It has pretty large control surfaces an you can use all yer stuff right outta the twist.

Stay away from the tribute. It's fragile and not a true profile. They do fly OK though. You might consider the OMP Edge v3 or the cedar hobbies zero g. The Mojo is going to end up about the same price after all is said and done though. I would just go that route if I were you.

best one for me is Diablotin Super http://www.icare-rc.com/diablotin_super.htm It is designed for electric but I put on os46ax with cf pipe 12x4 prop works great for 3d. hovers at 1/2 all day pulls out with authority.

Toolman is Right On Phoenix Funstars Best 3D .46 Powered Airplane. If Order with Current $30 Off $199 Order and Free Shipping for Super Saver Club members You'll get ARF less $70.
Here's My Review on Bird:
Phoenix Fun Star 3D FunFly ARF - 40

Probable Best Flying 40 Size Plane.

Phoenix Fun Star 40 I'm Super Impressed with Fun Star. I thinned 30 Minute Epoxy with 99% Alcohol and painted Engine, Fuel Tank and Servo Bay Areas. I should Have also painted Thinned Epoxy Where Rear Servos Go. Not Only Fuel Proofs But STRENGHTENS the Fusalage without Adding Significant weight. I used Brand New OS 46FX Engine and Broke it in for 1 1/2 Hours By OS Book prior to 1st Flight. The Plane is Simple Awesome in Air. I Did Use Neon Flame Red and Green Tape on Leadin Edge and Single 2" Bar on top Wing and 2 Bars on Bottom. My Right Wings are always Red and Left Wings Green. Really helps see plane at long distances and direction and if inverted or right side up. Especially important on this Bird with Yellow See Thru Wings. Hard believe great Quality & Value You get for Super Great Price. I bought 2 and plan buy 3rd as this is funnest Plane I've Ever Flown. I've owned 13 different airplanes and this is one I'll alway carry 2 in My trailer to Airfield. This May Be World Best 3D Aerobat and Super Easy Fly Bird. Slows Super Slow to Land. Everyone in Our Club never Saw a 40 Size Bird Fly or land like this one. Not Beginner Bird with Super Light Wing and Fuselage. But When Ready and can fly at intermediate level this is one Super Fun Bird. richgrow

I see you left the cowl off of yours too. I think it looks better with that nice 46ax showing anyway..... I've never owned an arf that was this lite, the weight of the wing is almost non-existent. This plane will hover so easy with the 46 its incredible. I run a 12.25x3.75 apc on mine.

so you guys are suggesting the funstar now? sounds cool. Just one question, would this be a pretty decent 3d plane, not just hovering, but harriers ect?

Oh yeah, thats how I land mine most of the time. On a windy day I can land this plane backwards if ya watch what yer doing with the throttle.

This plane is actually sturdy built for as lite as it is, and the size that it is also. I think this arf is made in vietnam, and seems to be built a lot better than most of the chinese ones I have, other than world models planes. The covering is fantastic on it also. I've had mine about 1 year now and the covering is just as tight as the day I got it. I've never had to re-shrink it, even when it was new. This plane comes with the wing already together an pinned hinges on all the control surfaces also. I luv mine.....

wish someone would take a popular 40 - 60 size 3d kit with the typical lazer cut parts lite ply and spruce and trace these parts to cut them out of light 4lb punky balsa and leave out about 30% of wood parts - this will cut weight in half and create a real floater, use light transparent covering. I don't have the time to do it - can someone give this a try and report back please.

I fly 3-D only and for 85 bucks the Tribute cannot be beat. Mine weigh 4 lbs even with a .46FX. Rising flat spins, square knife edge loops, 1/4 throttle hover and ballistic pullout. I have had pullout dragraces! My last one had over 200 flights on it. Just do the mods I did in the "Tribute" thread and your plane will survive full throttle hi rate blenders too. Adam

In order by personal preference: Mojo if you like building, OMP if you don't mind spending a bit more for quality or TMPro Extra 260 for a quick ARF build. Any of those will do great 3D with your engine. I have the latter just because I like combining 3D with pattern flying.

I'd say mojo arf. 160 isn't the cheapest but it is a small price to pay for a plane that wont break and flies so well. tube=3d love. [:-]
