Has anyone considered a engine from jett engineering, possibly the SJ .90L or SJ 100L with a turbo jet in cowl muffler?

It does not need that much power.... a Saito 82 is more then plenty on this airframe

Michaelh...

Are you having any issues with your inverted engine set up? The tank definately sits high

I am having a little trouble getting the mixes dialed in..... trouble getting a good idle

Any thoughts on that?

SDS,
I tune at a half tank, Get my peak and just work on the transition. When the transiton starts to lag/stutter I richen it an 1/8th .Turn the High back about 200-300rpm Idle comes out where it comes out. I try to get the lowest but end up with 2700 and low idle at 2500 most of the time. .Im hoping the idle gets lower as the engine only has about 2 gallons through it. This is were I think it should be, I can get it lower but has a strong camming to it. That little Harley comes out and wants to shake the plane to death
I may throw a regulator on though , not sure. I still have the 300cc in it and am taking advantage of the flight times for now.
Im pretty happy but think some more experimenting with props could benefit a better result.
Its still in its infancy, this plane will be around and get lots of use in the future. Like tomorrow!

This is my setup Im working with now until props come in .I really want to try the JZ and Pro Zingers out. Did you try these?

Saito 82a Os/F plug
Turbo Header exhaust
APC 14x4w
Cool Power 30% Heli
Im starting to hit 11,000 with it! [X(] Im actualy holding back unless Im at the start of an upline or pulling verticals.
Im not observing any lean out in these positions . If I can get out Ill try to get video. But they didn't inform me when I bought the camera I was going to have to buy a camera man also [:-] Bummer.

Well... I have a plan...

The problem with the stock arrangement is that the fuel tank is located too high... and the stock tank has to be back too far because it is too tall.

I ordered a Perry VP-30 pump and regulator... I will scoot my 8 ounce tank all the way back to the wing tube. I am running a velocity stack too btw.

When I install the pump it will also get a new OS F plug and an APC 14x6. THAT should do it! That should provide a consistant mix together with a solid idle. Pump arrives Wednesday should have results by next weekend.

I am not configuring for 3D... I fly IMAC and freestyle. I have seen no reason for any mixes as the airframe is very neutral. Dialing it in was a piece of cake.... it needed very little tweaking.

all for now,
SDS

Michaelh....

If you do try the APC 14x6 let me know.... be interesting to see what rpm we come up with. I am only getting 9200 with the Xoar 14x6.... I would like to see 9800 on the APC.

Are you guys have fuel draw problems with the Saito 82? I am getting ready to take the plunge and get myself the setup I showed and am slightly worried. Not really enough for me not to get it. Just want to know so I know what to expect.

Hi Shane,

I wouldn't label it as trouble.... just the dialing in process. Mine ran fine in the stock configuration but I am looking for a more consistant mix, better idle, and tank close to CG. It is a clean airframe and requires a decent idle to slow down for good landings. I HIGHLY recomend the Extra and the Saito 82.... it is without a doubt the best airframe in it's size available on this planet.

You got that right! There is another plane coming out in this size also Im going to be picking up. Thats off in the future before it gets released though.
Same thing though Saito .82 and for a slab I got a Saito .82 They do run better upright though.

Is this a new Extreme Flight plane coming out? I am planning on running my Saito side mounted primarily cause I've had nothing but trouble running engines inverted.

Should I just go ahead and mount the engine inverted or side mount it? If I mount it sideways, would it stick out the side of the cowling a lot?

I dont know Mine flew great this evening with the inverted. Its up to you really, Is an option.
Right now my LS is set to leanest it will go without stutterin or lagging.HS is set to -200rpm off peak. Thats as lean as Im getting it I think thats actually a lot leaner then some would be comfortable.
Ill give you guys a raw 8 minute flight soon
