Model Tech Magic Tailskid to wheel help!
Hi,
I just bought a Magic fun fly off of another club memeber, couldnt stand the skid being unpredictable. Basically Im after a different options to add a tailwheel, as the horizontal stab is one piece. The fella I got i off of, said something about removing the rudder and putting a wire one up into the fuse, and into the rudder. another said add another control arm off the servo my the thing is that it is pull pull. How would i add the wire to the rudder? or any other ideas?
Photos would be great.
thanks
Wayne

also to, I want it to be steerable, and just to be more specific, the horizontal stab is 1 piece, and the rudder sits on top of the fuse.

all of my 40 size 3d planes (profiles) just have a self castering tailwheel and have been fine to control on the ground. I would imagine the Magic has enough rudder authority to taxi with a non steering but castering tailwheel, no? Landing speed should be almost zero with that plane.
My first 3D plane had a steerable tailwheel but with the numerous tail drags I do it wouldn''t last long. This is why I now just bend up some music wire and make a long tailwheel wire myself. NEver had one rip out or damage the rudder since. I would try it before hacking up the rudder to make a steerable one.

Well we get considerable cross wind, and most of the memebers which is like 5, its a small club, said they have used castoring, but they said the wind can make it track away. i have spoken to the shop i go to, and on saturday they are going to help me sort out the tailwheel, firstly trying castoring. they also said best idea for direct costrol would be to go from existing servo and add pull pull wire. Im not so much going to be do massive amount of 3d for a while, and if i do im not sure ill be tail draging. my main prob was when i di my first landing with this thing, it was perfect till the skid touched down and it tracked left and then went off the runway, and im worried it will so towards the fliers, ever tho we have a fence.

If I remember correctly, when I put the tailwheel on my Magic I used a metal push-rod to control it off of one side of the rudder servo. Thought I had a picture here but it looks like it''s on my home computer.

I know what you mean..... that was two kids ago for me too.
While I *could* have managed without a steerable tailwheel, I was glad I added it. Taxiing was so much nicer with it.

yeah honestly, with me i hated the idea of carrying the thing out on to the runway, and i have a thing of not taking a chance with the prop, it could be because im still new to glow but i see it as a blessing, i know im not going to get to confident and put my hand in the way

never had the need for a tail wheel on small 3d models
my Magic taxies a treat with the skid and I feel that a wheel is dead weight
besides, it''s only on the ground for 2m

yeah, some ppl dont, but th skid alo hooks the grass, plus I want one, its my second plane, and want to use it as a tail draging steerer too. plus its about a 20-30 meter walk, with the plane, and I am still very cautious with the prop, and not to comfortable walking with it like that. But yeah I mean it suits heaps of ppl to just have the skid, which is kool, just not my preference. Plus its good practice working on models, and good problem solving for me.
