Os Rotary engine
Hello everyone! I just purchased the Great planes electrifly Edge 540t 50" E-Performance XLC (Extreme Light Concept) Series and I was thinking about powering it with the os engines 49 rotary wankel engine. How do you guys think this combo will work for 3d. and what size prop will work. I checked the weights and I'm thinking it should wheigh in the same as with electric power.
here are the links to the airframe and engine

RE: Os Rotary engine
I personally don't think that's a good idea.
Rotaries are great for top end hoursepower, as they rev really well, but have no low speed horsepower or torque. 3D flying needs instant 'controllable' power, which is why electrics are so good for 3D, but a wankle/rotary engine would be useless and take a long time to build up prop speed.

JYM Thanks for the video. Thats just simply awesome
even if it doesnt work the best for 3d. if it is moderately good then I would be happy. such a "pimp factor" having a rotory engine!!!!

Do it. I think it will be awesome. Just make sure that there are no openings into the fuselage (all uncovered lightening holes sealed with light ply) and that you fuelproof everything exposed with some epoxy. Use an 11x3 APC prop. Keep everything as light as possible and you should have a very cool airplane.
