Cheapest servos I can get away with???
Hey guys, what are some cheap but good servos I can use in a 72" 9.5-10lb plane?
I"ve got some hitecs in it now, but want to use them in another plane and put some ok ones in it for now (so I can sell it whatever, have it ready to fly and show, and let them have the servos). Can I get some from hobby city or somewhere that would suffice?
Thanks!
Tim

I would not skimp too much on servos. Get HS-645MG's at least. They are about $30 each. Don't risk loosing a whole plane over a cheap servo.

fair enough. I just wanted a servo good enough to show some basic test flights and give them to them or have them buy some better ones, but you're probably right. I just hate to take them out and have nothing to show the plane fly with.

I don't think it is wise to sell the plane with cheap servos in it, unless that is an understood part of the deal. Sure, if you just want to prove that the plane just flies, put Futaba 3003's or Hitec HS-311's in it. They are both around ten bucks. These servos are not strong enough for aerobatics in a plane that size, however.
Edit: I don't understand...you just want to prove the plane flies. But why then take the Hitecs out? Why replace them with cheap servos just "to show the plane fly with?"

Well, I want to move them into a new plane NOW, but I won't be able to sell this one till the spring (when I can get out and show it fly, and when guys are actually down at the field) so I just want some temps in it.
It was just an idea, but it seems like everyone is pretty much giving the no go on it.

I'd put these in it if you wanted to stay safe, yet cheap: http://www.servocity.com/html/hs-425..._sport_bb.html They are inexpensive, but better than a regular standard servo. Do keep in mind that if you are not going to sell them with the plane, you can always use them in another project later on.

I have had good luck with Tower Hobbies TS-140 and TS-160. They are digital metal gear servos that appear to be rebadged Futaba and Hitec.

Also, I run the HXT servos (both kinds) in nearly all my sport planes, and have never had a failure in a few hundred flights. I've saved a lot of money doing this, however it's not for everyone. I recommend you spend 2 mins and do your own QA with any cheap servos. 90% of the time you'll find the issue visually before it arises in flight. I don't recommend going cheap to most people, but for me, I've had 0 problems.
