Default Peakmodel Sukhoi SU 26 (68 inch) Maiden complete

I impulse ordered one of these,I usually stick with proven brands that have seasoned buildthreads.
I am taking a chance on this one and will post my findings during construction and flight testing.
There wont be a buildthread, just some notes and a few pics during assembly and general flying.
Power will be YS 140 and just a basic mix of sport servos.Aircraft will be pushed in all envelopes of flight, and used for Freestyle. Will likely change the hinges and decide on hardware when it arrives.
I expect the Sukhoi late next week.

I havent found anything on the web at all about this plane.
If anyone has some usable info, please post here.

Good, that looks promising, the YS 140 should be wild in that. Thanks for the link.I can hardly ever log onto the peakmodel site (bad gateway) any pointers for that?

It arrived today, everything looks good so far, just dry fitting things and doing an incidence check.
I'll post some brief pros/cons details as it assembles over the next while.I am assuming it will be about 2 to 3 weeks of a few casual evenings...sorry,have a few other chores to deal with
Pics will be added as necessary.

All the incidences were good, everything fits snug. Its built true and square.
The elevators have a joiner.I will probably modify that in some fashion.
The rudder is intended for pull pull, which I intend to use at this time,if the YS 1.40 gives a good CG.
Some of the screws are made from bubble gum,so I'll make a trip to the LHS and get a handful of things.

Nitro wing,
I've had a couple of their yaks and think they fly great. However there is a coule of small mods you might consider. First, put some triangle stock between the cowl monting tabs and the bulkhead. The tabs tend to wiggle loose after a coule of flights... at least on the yak... Second, put some small screws into the firewall from the sides of the motor box. I yanked my firewall completely out once...on the yak but the constuction is nearly identical so it really can't hurt...

Yes,thanks for the tip.
Those are standard procedures I do on most.I'll be changing the hinges and regluing critical areas also.I have built lots,so have a good idea what needs to be done if the plane has substandard build or hardware.
Its sitting on the bench ready for some electronics that my FuntanaX100 will donate.

Its pretty well done, motor, tank, radio and linkages are all in.So much for the 2-3 weeks
Took about 10 hours, with a little to do later
I'll update this thread on everything I have done and/or changed in the next while.
Tonite the hinges will cure and tomorrow I can tidy up my table and give it a full inspection.
It went quite well,no mods at all so far, very user friendly. The airframe is lasercut very nicely and things fit well.Even though the frame is very airy, with minimal wood, the structure still weighs a little more than I'd like.
Hope I am under 10 pounds.
Maiden is most likely not until next weekend.

I put it together without a manual,no problem there, but I should verify a flyable CG.
If anyone can help,I'd appreciate it.

Yes,thanks, pics and video will be available soon.
I'll go back and insert some pics and comment on some assembly and things.
At this point the YS 140 is probably a bit overkill for its size, the YS110/OS 120 (2-4 stroke) OS 140-(160 max) Saito 1.50 -1.80 would probably be about right.
Not sure how people are mounting the 26-28-40cc gassers in this, they all seem a bit excessive weight wise.
I opted to drop the supplied hardware.

Surprisingly I found all of it to be plenty beefy for this plane,in fact it was too beefy and had a bit of weight to it,so left it aside and used/recycled a few things I had on hand from wrecks and donors

Rudder is pull/pull (supplied stuff was ok) but used US hardware on hand and screwed plastic horns each side, instead of heavy threaded rod through rudder.

Ailerons are 4-40 rods with 4-40 ball link from a Funtana X100,perfect length, bolted right up.Used Dubro plastic horns instead of supplied heavy threaded rod and couplers.

Elevators (dual servo) used Dubro 90 size threaded rod and coupler mated to a crashed and saved CF rod with 4-40 ball links (each side)

Fairly simple really,I saved a chunk of weight using what I had in my recycle bin,but the supplied stuff would work fine and seems plenty strong. If using a gasser the supplied goods are probably adequate and necessary.

At this point there is not much else to add, except for the fuel tank,it appears ok ,but the YS pressurizes alot and I used a Sullivan tank of similar size that was a spare on hand.

Looking forward to flying this handsome and scale looking Sukhoi

Yes,that is why I bought it,jumped on that deal.Good price,including shipping.
Good timing too,as our $ has plumetted over the weeks.
I just bought a plane last week for 650 US cost me 830 Canadian!! plus shipping and brokerage fees...
At least the cost of gas is dropping rapidly also

Hope tomorrows maiden is smooth, weather looks good.

I just purchased a Peakmodels Su 26 and am now trying to decide on an engine. I'm thinking about a Saito 1.80 or an OS 1.60. Looking forward to your maiden flight results and comments.

A YS 1.40 and Saito 1.80 seem a bit large for this plane. My 69" Yak does very, very well with a Saito 1.25. The bigger engines are usually more at home with a 73" or 74" size plane. What does this plane weight with a YS 1.40?

Default RE: Peakmodel Sukhoi SU 26 (68 inch)

I flew it today with the YS 140,that seems like a good unlimited 3D combo without weighing down the airframe. My YS is still breaking in and is not tuned for max preformance yet.But it yanks the Suk around effortlessly. It does not need a YS 140 or the OS 160 (is quite a brute).I have the 160 in the Extreme Flight 74 inch Yak and its top 3D power and the plane is quite larger
I think a YS 110 or OS 120 would do well also.
Saito 115-125, 150 should do OK,not sure on the saito 180 for weight.Gassers must be difficult as I was a bit noseheavy with my set up.Just cant see light wingloading with a gasser and ignition batteries. This SU 26 is a nice handy size,in my opinion best suited for glow.

I have my receiver and flightpack (1100) on the tray behind the wingtube and the Tank just in front. This gave me a CG quite neutral, and just a bit noseheavy with fuel.
I took off and after a 1/2 lap let it go hands off.Wow
Completely clean and neutral flying plane
KE is easy, never noticed coupling that would bother me.Inverted needed a bit of push to keep the nose up.
CG tests showed it slightly nose heavy with full tank.Point rolls were pretty.Ailerons are powerfull. They work even without airspeed.

Landings were easy full stall 3 pointers at a slow jogging speed without a breeze. It just flew clean, presented very well in the air and loved to be flown at mid cruise speed going thru any flight attitude.
Rolling circles were really easy to steer around the field, very precise.Hovers were good, with enough aileron to counter the torque roll.Inverted spins looked controlled and slow descending.Harrier rolls were there,I just did not have the skills or timing today to see them thru all the way around.
Harriers were not to be had in a pretty fashion today,I had a tough time keeping the nose up and stopping the wingrock,at low power. If I added a bit of power it would rotate into a Hover.
This is something I will have to work on with CG and lateral balance etc.Elevator throws are at 45.
Overall this was a great maiden with lots of aerobatic fun and some mild 3D.
It really is a good looking 1/4 scale affordable aerobat.I think it should have real 3D potential with my set up and I will try to push its limits in the next while.I had 3 enjoyable flights, and nothing on the airframe came loose or needed attention.
I dont like giving a full evaluation this early, but do have to say that I am looking forward to fly this SU 26 and fine tuning it as I fly it more regularly [8D]

I hope its not that heavy! Would 3D like a pig. Not sure of your wing area but at that weight it must be around 24-26 oz ft.

I am hoping for 9 or less,we'll see.
Not so worried about full on 3D with this bird.I have other bigger planes more suited for that. This will be my daily beater practice plane.
From my first 3 flights,I can tell that it has potential, definately does not seem to fly heavy.Future flights will tell.
I am moving a few things around to get a more aft CG.I expect the next flights to be more agressive.

Hi
I wish I had some video to share, usually I have a few decent clips of my planes. Its been raining steady here, and the Extreme Flight Extra 300 (50cc) also arrived here..my basement is a bit cluttered.
As soon as I can fly it again ,I will give an update and hopefully have a video
