I am interested in using one of the 3Dfoamy.com airplanes in a research project that would involve installing an autopilot to allow for autonomous hovering and transition to forward flight. Does anyone have any thoughts on which airframe would be the best? I think that any of the kits would probably get the job done, but I would like to select the model that is easiest to control in hover.

Also, I will be adding a few onces in avionics weight. Has anyone done any flying with these planes at higher wing loadings?

Hi, How much weight are you planning to add? All of my airplanes are light and can handle a few more ounces no problem. The super being the largest will probably handle the biggest load.

Thanks, John. I will most likely be adding between 3 or 4 ounces in weight. I could potentially reduce the battery capacity some to help save weight if needed since I only need short flight times.

That can be done with either the pro or super models, Either way, all will fly with a few extra ounces of weight.

Pro models are 6mm depron 40" wingspan, Supers are 45" wingspan and constructed of 2mm and 3mm depron that is laminated.

What is the difference in weight between the Pro and the Super kits (just the kit with no electronics or motors)? Assuming that the Pro's are lighter (I don't want to have to move to a bigger motor since I am designing a custom, articulating ducted prop), I think I am going to go with a few of the SU-26MX's.

Also, I need to make a CAD model to design the duct mount and to do dynamics modeling, is there any chance that you would be willing to send me your CAD model after my purchase?

Well I just got this plane and it is sooooo easy to hover its ridiculous Not only that but knife edge flight need ZERO rudder input  Only down fall is it can handle only a tiny breeze at most   check it out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sNTPc6wI2v4
