nbop, the throws have a lot to do with the prop you plan on using and how you will fly the plane. If you are planning any sub-stall 3-D type flying, I wouldn't go any less on the throws than the recommended low settings. Control of the plane at these slow speeds is dependent on prop wash and ample throw of the control surfaces. What looks like too much is just right. I've been using the low and high throws given in the manual with no problems.
