The factory DD 4-40 push rods are fine and weight at the rear is what you need. The DD should balance on the high spot formed by the two main spars when you set the plane on a flat surface. You do need to stiffen the rods if the DD will see high speed/ high torque servos. I epoxied short lengths of .156 OD X .093 ID carbon tubes around the push rods leaving 1"on each end bare.
