It's been awhile since I looked at that Airtronics kit, you are probably right about the aux. fuel tank helping the CG issue instead of hurting. I mainly remember mine and a friends' QTEE coming out tail heavy. The most experienced builder of our local group built them in batches from balsa sticks and introduced me to RC combat with this plane way back when. His planes were so very light, he also introduced me to cellophane covering and pull / pull linkage with carpet thread.
