RE: Air Hogs Aero Ace!
how 'bout another aero ace LRF? i built this the other night, just got done with it tonight. it originally started with the funky two fin tail, but it had a tendency to stay in a nose dive once it entered one, always resulting in a crash. so, i just added a rudder and adjusted the angle of the horizontal fins (last pic).
the main wing is .020 cf rod, the tail feathers are .010 cf rod, covered with alumized mylar. the rest is just 1/16th inch balsa, some CA, and a little bit of wire insulation to hold and adjust the wing posts so i can adjust the incidence. the RX is from the AA, unmodified, the two motors and prop, as well as the 50mah lipo are from the piccoz heli. the wing is 10 inches by 5.5 inches, total weight of 6 grams.
out of all of the LRFs i've built i'd almost say this is one of the most well behaved, it flys nice and slow, turns on a dime and is very stable. the CG is quite far forward, which is why the angle of attack on the main wing is so high. when the power is on, it allows it to climb very steadily, when the throttle is cut, it just kind of parachutes down. the overall speed and control can be changed quite easily with just sliding the front wing post up or down.
i've got some video, but i'll wait till tomarrow when i can get some better footage, it flys quite nicely in the house.
