Default RE: Ooh, look what papa got for early Christmas..

Well, there is currently the famous goldhead OPS .60 Super SPP VAE on the big auction site for sale – NIB!

That is the most powerful .60 aero engine ever built commercially available. Unlike the .65 sized version the OPS .60 goldhead is FAI compliant.

In Germany speed pilots using this .60 VAE engine during the EURO Speed Cup potentially reach the first place within the 10 cc “royal class“ (F3S-C), for instance see

However the past two years show a clear trend:
The OPS .60 VAE and its main rivals (PICCO .60 RIRE, ROSSI 61 RIRE, NOVAROSSI .61 FIRE, ) are being highly modified to hopefully burst that "magical" 250 mph "barrier" this year ( [link=http://www.f3s-speedcup.de/termine.php]27.+28. of Sept.[/link] )

These engine modifications include:

[ul][*] optimised timings for intake and exhaust[*] optimised crank and conrod/piston balance[*] optimised port shaping and mixture flow[*] reduced internal dead volume[*] different venturi speed carb[*] custom made multiple cone tuned pipe[*] custom made billet front ball bearing housing with differently sized ceramic bearings[*] either custom made rear intake disk valve unit ensuring less friction than stock[*] or modified OPS rear intake drum valve (latest version)[*] custom made cylinder head button with altered combustion chamber volume and geometry (squish band, double bubble etc)[*] usage of #6 to #8 coned glow plugs (Novarossi “Turbo“ plugs), so CNC cut + differently threaded head button blanks are needed. “Turbo Plugs“ work better (smaller cone end) and last longer than Nelson HD ore GloBee plugs.[*] custom made cylinder cooling head providing more efficient cooling and mounted by 8 cylinder head screws[*] ...
[/ul]

So such an OPS 60 VAE engine really needs to be combined with an aerodynamically highly refined airframe and the correct sized carbon fibre propeller to make use of its potential.

Last not least more OPS 60 VAE info:
