thats true. the gyros will course the irratic behaviour and also if the motors sustained damage. i would try to bench test the unit and see if you can figure out a solution.
have you looked at the wire connections and the magnets. sometimes they slip and need pushing up. sometimes its the simple things that need looking at first.
