I dont know if you have noticed but even though I have the metal head and swash, I did have the metal central hub but I actually snapped the shaft in the hub twice[:@] from my inexperience and it was almost impossible to remove so I use the plastic one and snapped the plastic which made replacing easy.
I believe its the weight of the heli and the softer shaft material that has tragic results on the shaft, It even bends to where its a pain to remove from the bearings but the stock one has'nt bent the, head snapped off but the shaft was ok.
