I sent an email to CC support and here is their answer. Just FYI

Hi,
I have been using the CC ICE 100 ESC on a flying wing with great results. Love the logging feature.

I am using the built in BEC while hooked to a 4S lipo and usually stay well under 100 amps. I am being warned by others that if the ESC fails, so will the BEC. That I should use an external BEC? Is using the built in BEC dangerous and does the BEC fail if the ESC fails?
Thanks,
Mike

It can. It does not necessarily always fail but this is always a possibility. Keep in mind, every other speed controller you own with a linear or switching BEC has this same "problem". For that matter, every other controller on the market that has a BEC does. As long as your setup is under the amperage rating of the controller, and you're not overtaxing the BEC, 99% of the time you're going to be fine. To test your BEC unplug the motor, plug in a freshly charged battery (the one you'll be using in the plane), and exercise all servos simultaneously for 30 seconds. If the servos don't slow to a crawl or stop you should be just fine. The only planes I don't use a BEC on are my pylon planes and my giant scales...both are too costly and will easily kill someone if I hit them...the latter being the more important. Let me know if you have any other questions Mike. I'm happy to help.
