i am just learning to tig. I have a mig as well. I am much better at the mig, but cant get the welds small enough to look good on 1/4 scale RC car frames, so i moved to tig. I bought a miller diversion and have been happy with it.
Yep, perfect example of where TIG shines. Small welds. Perfect example is the ti-rods and pushrods on this project... I welded a 3/16 nut to a tube without deforming the threads. No other way to pull that off. Well, maybe braze... but I bet it would find it's way into the threads, and I wouldn't expect it to hold up.
If you're into quarter scale, you need to learn TIG, metal and aluminum.
You could do it with MIG and smaller wire, using more of a stitch technique, still probably get the job done just fine. But you don't get that butter and stack of dimes that we all dig.
