I've "fixed" bad cuts and tears in my cowl by applying (on the inside) white duct tape held down by thin CA. I've also used this method to fill in spaces in some holes that I cut too large. And to strengthen the screw holes. It's not perfect, but actually doesn'' look too bad. And better than not flying, that's for sure.
