Rich, you can use most mfg's rx's with a Futaba tx, I do. I prefer Hitec rx's.
Just go with a dual conversion, as it's a better rx, and you have to have a negative shift to be compatible with Futaba.
As for servos, I've had great luck with the 9 gram versions from Hobby King.

For three bucks they are hard to beat vs what you paid for the HS-55's. These would be quite similar to your 55's.
