New Speed Plane
Thanks, Chuck. Good eye, R-boy. Yes, that is carbon fiber, and its under the glassed center section (between the ailerons). Because I built the wing so thin (3/4" at root, 3/8" at tip), I sheeted, carboned, and glassed it. It is stout.
Specs: 46" span, 400 sq. in. I am guessing that it weighs in at around 3-1/4lbs, given the number of quickies I have held.
Low speed: It is a floater, with the light wing loading. Not much drag to slow it down either. It takes awhile to come down.
High speed: Flys like its on rails. Very quick and aerobatic. Lightning fast snaps at 120 mph or so. I have no fear with that wing. However, I did a couple of full pull turns and half loop reverse turns, and it liened out bad. How do I fix that? I wanted the pipe high because it was originally intended as a hand launch. But I fly off a paved runway, so the quickie gear and wheels were the way to go. Otherwise, I would have mounted the engine at 90 degrees.
