I opened the July issue of Model Airplane News and noticed that Cox is coming out with a Pitts. I think it is a Model 12. Initial specs from the mag... Wing span 72", 1,721 Sq Inches, 16-18 lbs for a 50cc to 75cc engine.

Anybody know anything else about this plane?

It's true - Cox known for 60 years for our famous .049 motors is coming out with a whole new line of products including our new Pitts M-12 designed for 50 cc class motors.

It will be an all wood model already built and covered with fiberglass cowl and wheel pants.

We are just in the prototype stage now and we expect the first production to be this fall.

Dave

Do you have a link to the Cox web site and is there any information about the new line of planes that you are coming out with. I am glad to see Cox coming out with new planes.

Man, Cox just skipped right over a size range and went straigt to the biggies....Is a 50cc class Black Widow engine in the works?
Do you know how many finger tips, finger nails and band-aids I went through when I use to play with cox engines? Hurt like H#!! till the 40% nitro hit the cut.

Anyone know what other planes they are coming out with? I think this Pitts S-12 will be my next plane. I haven't been able to locate a website either.

Why do some people refer to the Pitts Model 12 as the Pitts S-12? If you go to the official website there is no reference to the S-12 designation. www.pittsmodel12.com

For alot of reasons, Bipe Addict. None of which I'll discuss here.

This news about the Cox Pitts Model 12 is very exciting. I've sworn that I will not have a gasoline engine until I move into a house (vs. apartment), but I might just have to buy this model to keep until I move!!!

I'm VERY excited about this offering from Cox.

The same MAN issue also showed that Cox will be releasing some (how many?) small electric planes, complete with motor and prop for under $20. They will require the radio system according to MAN. I'm looking forward to those as well.

What I'd LOVE to see Cox introduce would be a large(r) R/C version of the Cox Pitts made famous oh so many years ago. You all know what I'm talking about! I believe it was an S2, and was painted red, white, and blue. A real beauty it was!!!

Let us know when the new Cox products hit the shelves, and where we can buy them!!! My money's waiting!!!

-Wayne

Yea, I can't wait. They even put a decent color scheme on the plane unlike the new Wild Hare Ultimate. Anyone know the inside width of the cowl? It probably can't be done but it would be cool to put a small twin Roto 70 or 80cc in there.

Too bad they are not making a 50 sized Pitts like the plastic CL one I owed 30+ years ago. I still can't get that little red plane out of my mind. It barely would fly, but it was neat with a 025 (or something small like that). That is why to this day the Pitts are still my favorite plane, Thanx Cox.

Most of Curtis Pitt's designs were set off with the S- such as the S-2A, S-2B, S1-11B and so on.. People just automatically call it an S model. M is the first non-S from Pitts that I know of, that actually became a plans built airplane.

Thanks for the great comments.

The Cox website will be up and running about the end of the month at www.coxmodels.com with lots of new airplane but the Pitts is by far the biggest.

I measure the cowl on the prototype at around 8 1/2".

Sorry, no plans for a 50cc Black Widow...you guys are warped.

As a joke, we were tempted to put two control line leads out the wingtipon on our display model in Toledo (Toledo was on April Fools Day), but someone might have taken us seriously. Just so everyone is clear, the Cox Pitts is going to be radio control.

How about a very scale Super Decathlon, something very scale like Pilot used to put out in the 80s. It could be big but could also be a 40 or 60 size. Companies are producing Decathlons but nothing with any realism. Examples: Great Planes, Seagull, Dynaflite, Global = not Scale!

Thanks,

Mike

COME ON
You guys at cox are missing the boat on this one. You NEED a 50cc Black Widow on a control line Pitts 12.
DDDDDDUUUUUUUHHHHHHH

Just kidding, but that would be interesting.

I saw this model at Toledo. Simply gorgeous...

They were also showing a small Ultimate that should give the Sig SunDancer 50 some competition. I had to look again to make sure I was at the Cox booth...

Like many of us, I was weaned on PT-19s, Babe Bee .049s, the plastic "warbirds" (the T-28 was my favorite), and eventually graduated to wood models; Ambroid, tissue & dope.

Holy cow guys! The same company that built my first free flight models and motors can now feed my need for the bigger gassers!

Hey Swat Cop, I finaly got out of the Army! You sure are right about missing it though. So far I am in the midst of starting my own company. Right now I am producing drill jigs for the entire DA line of engines.

Keep up the good work Cox. I never would have dreamed they would leap into the larger plane market like this. I know what my newest plane will be for this fall In fact I have already started getting the radio gear and engine together.

Indeed. Also, putting one's "knees in the breeze" tends to set one apart from legs and other riff-raff.

I nearly had a stroke when I heard about the decision to give every member of the "Army of One" a beret. What a travesty! I spent a long, painful time earning mine; and when I saw a fat, female leg recruiter waddling down the sidewalk in New Orleans, with a black beret perched on her "do", I almost puked.

Off the subject but yeah it pisses me off they gave that beret to everyone They changed the Black to Tan and legs that are a part of an airborne unit can wear the Maroon beret. What a bunch of crap that is when legs are wearing our berets. At least in the UK the women cant jump out of planes. Makes no sense to keep women on airborne status when they will never jump into combat. In the UK you cant have females in the Airborne. The Parachute regiment is something you actually have to work at to get in. I remember that everytime I rub my british wings I got when I as in the UK....he he.

Anything new pertaining to the Cox Pitts? I'm seeing ads with their new planes in the magazines, but so far, no Pitts 12.
