HUGE delta construction!
I just thought I'd post my thoughts on my next project. It will be a huge delta, I was thinking about 62" span and a length of 47". Power will be a GT-80 twin...anyone know what props are used on those large scale pylon planes that use this engine? I want speed not thrust. I was also thinking of building it from foam with fiberglass and carbon where needed.

RE: HUGE delta construction!
The props are made for us by APC...The stock GT80 engines on a 25 lb Formula One Kelly (I have one) or GR7 run about 7500 rpm on the ground and about 9000 in the air..Speeds are 140+ mph...Not sure what the pitch and diameter are.....
Methanol racing versions of the GT80 run 11,500+ rpm in the air, 19x18 carbon prop, 180+ mph on the same planes...
FWIW....Not bad for an "overweight underpowered" engine...Nothing else we have tried compares.... Any 80cc engine can be used in the methanol class, the stock class is restricted to GT 80s....

You might visit www.crazyherb.com for some ideas on how to build your delta. I've built a few from his specs and they turned out to be excellent flyers. Hope it helps you.

RE: HUGE delta construction!
Some time ago there was a website showing a very large scaled up version of a Bruce Tharpe Delta Vortex. I think it was all wood construction. A Google search would probably find it. It was a nice looking plane, although it may not be what you want. The Delta Vortex isn't quite as fast as it looks due to the thick airfoil.
I had the standard size one for glow power and is was a blast to fly.
