The car seems to start up ok, it ideals fine but as soon as i give it some gas it doesn’t move reves up and stales. I've tried adjusting the ideal screw to as many positions as i thought feasible.

I'm out of options on what to do and what the problem could be. All the belts and gears seem to be moving freely doesn’t look like something is jamming but it would just budge 1 centimeter or so and then just die out.

I have a Yokomo GT4 RTR2
I'm new to the scene so any ideas would be appreciated. Thank You.
I wanna try and solve the problem on my own before i finally give up and take it to a hobby shop =)

It might be too rich on the low speed needle. When too much fuel goes in, it drowns and kills the glow plug, which makes the engine stop...

If this was the case I woudl just need to lean out the low speed needle and just start it up. Or does this mean that the glow plug is caput and needs to be replaced.

If it is too rich, it means that you need to lean it up a little at a time until it works well.

i had the same problem part from i needed to richen it up a bit. It didnt have anoth fuel going into the engine so it cutrs out when you press the throttle.
I might be wrong thoe. If that doesnt work then try buying a new glow plug.

i'd go with it being to rich on the low end lean it off 1/8 or 1/4 of a turn at a time till it takes off sweet from a standing start.

check to see if the glow plug is recomened for the engine. I had the same prob with my .12TR when i used a new plug that was not recomended for the engine. I spent days trying to work it out. Then i put in a glow plug that was recomended for the engine and it worked fine. If the glow plug is the right type replace it anyway. Restore all the settings to the factory settings and then lean them a tiny bit. Also a good idea is to start up the engine and let it run off the ground at medium throttle to heat up the engine to running temp. Theres no point trying to tune a cold engine thats just silly. Also run the car on the ground then tune it. If you Run the car under no load conditions u might get it tuned right but as soon as u put the car on the ground the tuning will be all screwed up again.

ok te car should idle on its own anyway for a little while regardless on wat your settings are. If it doesnt idle u have a problem other than not being unable to tune it corectly. The low speed needle is called the mixture controll valve. Some engines dont have this valve though which makes idle adjustment a bugger. Look up your engines manual to see if it does have one. It is located on the side of the carb. The screw is screwed into the carb so it looks like a little screw inside the carb. Also adjust your throttle stop screw correctly as this affects idle as well. With the brake fully on there should be a 1-2mm gap in teh carb for air to get in to keep it idling. To see where all these parts are look up the manual or the interent for a diagram.

thanks, here is what my manual says:

3: Needle Valve (I know what this is, I closed it all the way then opened 2.5 turns)
4: Idle adjustment screw (manual reads "adjusts the carburetor opening when idling")
7: Idle mixture screw (manual reads "adjusts volume of air and fuel in mixture")

I am a bit confused between 4 and 7. Please help me translate what you are saying to what the manual says...

Thanks again for your support with this!

Brett

if the motor is reving up and then die'n then it is to lean and you need to richen it up

what happens is it gets going and then suddenly it doesnt have enough fuel and shuts down

now if its boging when you hit the throttle and die'n then it is to rich and you need to lean it out

Great news, also, what is proper PRIMING procedure? - 1/7/2004 10:25 PM

I misread the manual, and had the idle mixture screw set way to lean. I set it to the correct specs per the book, and it idled on its own for two minutes. I tried to tamely drive the car around, and it stalled. I was not paying too much attention to if it boged down before stalling, but I am almost positive it did not rev up.., so I am going to try to lean it out a bit at this point.

Also, how do I prime the engine without flooding it? I try to drop fuel right into the carb but it is very hard to control the flow. I tried yanking it over with the exhaust plug closed, but I flood it every time this way. Maybe I am yanking it too much.

Thanks,

Brett

one way to prime it would be to blow into the fuel line that goes to the pipe

and another would be to pull it 2/3 times with your finger over the exuast pipe..

so i was right to lean

Don't know for sure if you were right to lean (the high speed needle), but I am almost positive you are. I will let you know tomorrow when I do this when I wont wake up the neighbors!

When you say two pulls, do you mean two full pulls (cord all the way out twice), or two rotations of the crank? Is it possible to flood the engine this way?

Also, if I do flood it, what is the best way to unflood (other terminology?) it?

Thanks again, this is alot of fun getting this beast going!

i have found that the best way to "prime" the enigne is to put a few drops of fuel in the carb (via a eye droper)

you should never pull the pullstart all the way out, the most i ever do is about 1 foot, if you pull too far you are risking breaking the pullstart...

the best way to "unflood" an engine is to take to glow plug out and turn it upside down and then give the pullstart a few yanks "keep eyes away"

hope this helps;
if not send me a pm and i will try to help ya out!
