Northstar follow up : ARROW by Laddie Mikulasko !
Hello,
I've just discovered the Arrow, a new sea plane design by Laddie Mikulasko... It is somewhat similar to the Northstar, except it is a true delta wing design.
Has anyove ever heard about it ? Any feedback ? Performance ? Available plans ? Or even kitted ?
thx

It looks OK, but I prefer the Northstar's looks. And the performance!!!
Ab fab
I've had two and they were wonderful.
I want another

No, a 90 ducted fan
No, a turbine.
Anybody seen a turbine powered Northstar?

I agree, I did not mention it, but I prefer the Northstar look. However, this design may fix the tail heavy configuration, as there is no stabilator any more.
No more tip floats as well... Too bad !

Probably just jacked the CG up all over again too...hehehe..
I agree canards look good though...
I do like the simplicity of the Arrow design though.... I like em both...
LADDIE...need a kit review??? Send one my way!!! Hehehe...
I'll end up just making a foamie version of it though.....

I finally got to look at the construction article via my RCM log in and I see good and bad.
I am defiantly NOT going to have removable wings; I have found them to be unnecessary and heavy on a delta aircraft. L.M. does not have the prop clearance in the construction article. Right now I’m thinking about a GMS .61.Im going to change around the shape of the nose of the fuse to look more like a shark rather then a stake. The good news is it looks a lot easier to balance then the North Star. I can also believe the weight estimate being around 5 lb * or – on this airplane.
Hope to get started ASAP on this one.
Still waiting on UPS for the plans.

I changed the shape of the nose around; it is shown in red in the pictures.
Most important is giving the “sea plane” a boat nose that will keep it from turning into a submarine!!!
The second is a wider nose viewed from the top giving it more room for a battery and ballast weight.

Todays progress
Doing the usual sheeted truss thing, the alignment is flawless rather then the balsa sheet construction.
No canards for me, just a different nose, non removable wings, and sheeted truss fuse

So how are you coming with it ???
I am thinking about getting back after a hiatus of almost 20 years. I would be interested to know what skill level is required to successfully fly this bird.....
(actually I got out just after Laddie published the plans for the Northstar, and I guess that my question would apply to this one as well. Some comments from anyone that has built the kit would be appreciated!)

Hi Villi
I have built and flown the North Star and its flight performance can not be beat, its also not that difficult to fly if you are used to an aerobatic type aircraft.
How ever I have found that the North Star has 3 construction/engineering flaws.
1 it takes a gross amount of lead weight in the nose to make it balance.
You can solve this by making the nose longer so it will take less weight, teeter_totter stuff exc…………..
2 The throttle and elevator controls are very sloppy on the NS, even though it would mean 3 more oz in the tail (2 servos in the pod) it is worth it to put direct connections for the elevator and throttle. Bell cranks might be another possibility
3 Each aileron needs its own servo, they need to work as flaperons. It is drastically more effective to trim pitch with flaperons rather then the elevator on the North Star.
You can do all these changes to the North Star, but Laddie solved all 3 problems with the Arrow.
So far I am pleased with the way my Arrow is coming out with the construction. The main thing I have noted is that the Arrow is the simplest float plane you can build.

Thanks Spence
No - not used to an acrobatic aircraft. - My last one was a Stick!!
Think I should probably build a Telemaster 40
That should be staid enough for me.....
