About right..some will be better, some less, depends on the condition of the piston ring and the timing...The old 35s had points, and the gap will determine when it fires..don't know what the gap is, I think it's molded into the point cover....As the fiber piece on the point wears the timing gets retarded.......

I use the 18x 6/10 on my S/T 3000 & 3250, but have had better pull with the 20x 6/10 on the Q-35 and G-38. I've found the MAS Classics will flex flat under power and are harder to balance.

my q35 turns a 18-6 wood zinger at 8000. point cap calls for .015. at .016 it would only turn 5600 & sounded sick. set them at .014 and the motor came alive. i haven`t tried any other prop. it`s on a h-9 supercub & it will almost hover. a cub looks funny going straight up for a couple hundred feet. i`m real happy with it . i only paid $100 for it.

Most popular prop is an 18-8. Should turn in the mid 7s.

i don`t have a scale.i have a super decathlon that is over 15 lbs. & i think the cub is a pound or 2 lighter.to get it to balance i cut a hatch in the tail & put a 2200 mah batt. back there. it still took 8 0z of lead to get it to balance. i know 2200 mah is way too big but i know someone who sells them to me for $15.i only put them in bigger planes. i like 6 volt for more torque. i usually overpower them so a little weight is needed anyway. what plane r u going to put the engine in? i have a q 50 that is set up for alcohol but it would drink too much of the $14 gal. stuff.i have the coil for it so i think i`ll get a new carb & fly it w/ gas. i was thinking about a patty wagstaff extra?

To Rambo:

I purchased/owned the first Quadra 35 sold in the U.S. Also was the very first Quadra dealer, and introduced that engine to modelers world-wide 28 years ago, in 1976. We've come a long way since then - but that was the start. The settings for a Q35 are .010 coil gap; .015 point gap; and .025 spark gap. I used to gap the points at .012/.013, and that would increase the RPM of the engine like crazy. I had one engine that would turn an 18/10 Zinger (old style - very thin blade) at 8500, and using a sound tachometer, it would turn close to 10,500 in the air at wide open throttle. If you don't crash the engine, it will just get better and better with time.

Does anyone know if the Quadra is convereted engine. If so from what mfg? I have an older Q35 and the crank brg. is bad I have a lot of wabble at the prop. Is this a common problem. Can i buy the brgs. at a local small engine dealer or do i need to go to Bennett?

Comes from the Frontier chainsaw. Made by TML Trail Manufacturing Limited out in Trail BC. in the early 70s. I still use one. You can get one from a local bearing supplier. Nothing special about them. # is on one end. Take it with you so they can size it up. I'd get both ends and seals too. Nothing special about them either. May as well do it right and give it a treat.

I am happy to see this thread still alive! I too am the proud owner of what some tell me is the Quadra 35. Others thought it was a 70 or 79 because of the numbers stamped on it. Is there a place on this engine to find it's true identity? I have two OLD Bud Nosen big sticks to build and this engine will be going into one of these. I think there should be more support site for the Q35 or the Quadra in general on this thread. I like the bolt on starter that I have seen for this engine and the price is not that bad either. I look forward to seeing more Quadra owners post here! This could be a great support thread for us in the future. I would post pictures of mine but puting pictures here isn't that easy.Take Care, Scott

how much does a Q35 weigh? I am building a 1/4 scale Sopwith Camel from plans purchased in 1988. The plans call for a Quadra 35. I may decide to substitute another engine, and would like to know what my weight budget is.
