I am gathering all the electrics I need for my Mini Funtana. So when I receive it ( when ever that is ) I will be ready to go. I was going to run an E Flite 400 brushless but I love the AXI motors. I have one on my Shocky ( 2208/34 ) and my Hellraiser ( 2212/34 ). I am thinking the 2212 series is going to be to small for this planes since its weighs about 21 oz. AUW. What about the 2808/20 or the 2808/24 ? These things weigh less than the Eflite motor and gearbox and will provide 52 oz. of thrust. I am going to run a Thunder Power 3S1P 2100 mah pack. Tell me what you think. Which one ? What Prop ?

wo wo!!!! ,

i personaly would go for the 2808/24. if does give 51 oz of thrust then absolutely no question about it. why settle for consantly stripping gearboxes( )? go for it and please let us know how it goes.

Hobby Lobby says that motor is up to 37 Oz of thrust, so it is too small.

I also was wondering how you are getting 51 oz of thrust from a 2808/24, I don't have one so I am not saying it can't be done. Perhaps some others could answer the original post on the best AXI for the Mini Funtana.

I am pretty sure that the 2808 24 will develop way more than 37oz of thrust, Hobby Lobby has a way of understating some of there specs, I have never measured the thrust of my2212 26 but it will haul my 16oz foamy accelerating verticly with what I would guess to be at least a 2 to 1 thrust to weight ratio, that there is 32oz of thrust from a 2212 26, I plan on using the 2808 24 on my mini fintana.
the key here is prop selection, when you put big power on a plane the power plant does not labor itself, I guess what I am trying to say is that in my experience with axi's I allways end up with a bigger prop than they recomend, but the amp draw (on paper) would say dont do it. The amp draw in reallity is with in the limits do to the fact that most of the time the throttle stick is below half. Idont see any reason why the 2808 24 shouldnt be capable of at least 48oz of thrust.

Hobby Lobby under rates every AXI motor. I am thinking a 12 x 6 APC SF on a 3 cell lipo.

i am running a 2808-24 on a 22 oz 3D plane of my own design i like it alot with a 10 x 3.8 SF APC (yes i know its overreving the prop) i get 42oz thrust at 25 amps, i use a tanic 2500mAh pack (3s1p) i get 15minn of 3D befor the CC35 LCV kicks in at 9v. i tried a 10x5 E-APC, not bad, but hovers better with the SF.
here are pics

u could do 2cells with a 12x6, on 3 cells it will burn stuff up really quick. its a hot wound motor, ive had 3 of these on test stands with a whattmeter and tried several props before i settled on the 10x3.8, on a 11x4.7 SF it was 29amps, too much

I have Two Axi's waiting for a new airframe.

I have a 2212/20 which I think is not enough for this bird and I have a 2820/12 which I know is overkill.

Dou you think the 2820/12 will fit into this thing?

I am going to go and bench the 2212/20 and see what kind of thrust I can get her to pull. I have a Jeti 18 amp SC for this thing so with the right prop and a 3S LiPo I think it does well. I had it in a 20 Oz AUW Air Blaster and it had great vertical on a 9x6 pulling about 16 amps on a 8 cell NiMh. If I pitch it down and go with a SF 10" or so prop I am curious to see what it does.

I will let you know!

Okay, did some bench testing and convinced my self that the AXI 2212/20 is very marginal for the Mini Funtana.

I slapped on a 10x4.7 (couldn't find a 10x3.7 in my "box-o-props").

Setup.

Axi 21212/20
10x4.7 SF Prop
Jeti 18 Amp Advance
Kokham 3S/15C 2000mah

I was pulling about 26 Oz at about 22 to 23 Amps.

My setup for measuring thrust on the bench is not the greatest so the thrust number could be a bit low.

How much thrust should a guy be looking for? 30-40 Oz or so?

I would say at least 2 to1 thrust to weight, 3 to 1 would be better

I got my funtana today. How do you plan on mounting it? I want to use the 2808 series. Looks like a lot of work to build up the firewall to make it fit properly. How do you think a himaxx HC2812-1080 will work?
