I just inherited a Whistler auto gyro. I have never flow nor built one of these machines. The model has some front end damage, but not to bad. I was told that this model is for .25 to 35 engines. I have a webra 32. that I'm thinking about putting on this thing. Can anyone give me some info on how to set this up, What is a teeter bar? Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks
Scott

Scott...

Prof John Kallend, the designer of the Whistler, published a very complete and good article on its construction and theory of autogyro operation in RC Modeler in 1991 or 1992.

If you don't have access to those back issues, send me your surface mail address and I'll be glad to send you a copy of the article.

Bill

I just finished up a Whistler that I too "inherited" from another club member. Fortunite enough to also have the construction article as well. Very little damage when I got it, the wing got crunched here somehow (the cat is my prime suspect) so rebuilt and recovered that. Still have to set proper control throws and finish tweaking the rotor setup. How'd you do with yours? Got some pics I'm enclosing.

Scott...

The photos look good. Jim Baxter and I built Whistlers about 13 years ago and found that the 3/16" rotor mast that is specified on the plans is rather flimsy. Suggest you go to 1/4" steel. Also the Whistler flys fast...at least until you get accustomed to it. When taking off, be sure to give the rotor plenty ot time to come up to speed. Do this by taxiing slowly into the wind. When you see the rotor start to spin up. increase the throttle to say 1/2, push the stick forward so you are taxiing with the tail off the ground. Then increase throttle to full and ease back on the stick. The plane should lift off smoothly. Patience in take off is the key.

Good Luck

Bill
