Default MRC/ACADEMY SBV2 "Pro"

Model Rectifier Corporation and Team Academy, the 4WD specialists, are excited to announce the U.S.A. release of Academy Racing's newest entry into the 4WD off-road racing world, The SBV2 "PRO". This buggy sports a similar design to the original V2 but with even more features that have launched Academy into the top spot at many US tracks. The SBV2 "PRO" has all of the Academy option parts originally offered for the V2, all in one package! The SBV2 "PRO" will provide rock solid performance and driver satisfaction from start to finish. Based on reactions from Team Academy drivers and the press at the iHobby Expo, MRC/Academy has designed a winner that is showing very well in local, regional and national races throughout the country.

Features Include:

-Battery may be mounted as a standard stick pack, side-by-side pack, 3 x 3, 4 x 2, or 5 x 1 saddle pack. This capability will allow drivers to balance the buggy depending on specific track conditions and driving style

-Aluminum center brace can be moved to 3 different positions changing the way the chassis flexes, a second brace can be added for ULTIMATE rigidity

-Motor can be mounted on either the left or right side of the chassis

-Main chassis, upper deck and battery strap are made out of thick black woven carbon fiber

-Machined purple anodized aluminum motor mount with traditional 2 screw mounting for more adjustability with pinion and included spur gears. Six spur gears included: 70,72,74,76,78,80

-Adjustable slipper clutch is easy to tune by simply using the included wrench to tighten or loosen the dual slipper pads and plates without disassembling any part of the car

-Ball differentials with out-drive saver rings front and rear

-Academy's famous Teflon coated aluminum oil filled shocks

-Modular bulkhead with built-in 10o kick-up

-Adjustable polished aluminum T6 Grade tie-rods all round

-One way bearing on center shaft for superb steering upon corner entrance

-Universal drive-shafts on all four corners

-Full ball bearings throughout, no plastic or oil-ite bushings in this car!

-NEW Hard suspension material, with additional hole in rear arm for short or long arm suspension geometry

-Lexan Body, Wing and Under-tray. (Motor and other electronics not included)

Dave,

Does this mean it is released? I thought it wasn't until mid Feb?

Who is stocking it and where can I get parts?

Thanks.

Yea I'm def checking this one out! Im surprised we haven't heard more about it on the "general electric" RC board.

Im thinking it will take away from some of the DI sales at that price.

Dave,

What items do you recommend to pickup as a tuning option? I know you told me about the rear 3 degree block and the center carbon shaft, any others you recommend?

CAIN: There really isnt much needed, this kit is completely Pro'd out. Only other tuning option would be different Shock Pistons but this is as per track, and as per drivers preference just like all other PRO cars on the market.

I've been wrenching on models for 25 plus years and specifically RC for the last 5. Having two boys race each other for two years then just one who has raced everything from 18 to 8, I have learned to look for durability as well as handling.

Until now, 4 wheel buggy has been out of the question due to maintenance, but after many hours of debate, we are now proud owners of the new SBV2 "PRO". We will be racing it hard this summer...so stayed tuned...tips and setup will be forth coming...

MRC is doing really well with getting parts out as soon as they come in. I backed ordered alot of stuff, and as soon as they came in they called me and got it out right away.

Hey Guys!!

The MRC/ACADEMY stuff has become way easier to get this past year. Bigger online accounts like Stormer Hobbies, A-main Hobbies, are all carrying our stuff. We are speaking with other BIG online accounts as well that are very interested in stocking our full like of goods. More and more shops are also carrying our items.

The V2 Pro is really starting to make MRC look like a real race company. Trust me we are not done with the coming out with "TRUE RACE CARS", we have something in the works and its not your typical ACADEMY type vehicle, we are very very excited about this project and I look forward to dropping more hints as we get closer.

Regarding the TRUGGY conversion, it takes a decent amount of the RT4 GP Pro Spec parts and a little filing to get the parts to fit. The toughest part is stretching the chassis to a truck length.

List of Parts for Truggy:

1 98RG 002 RT4 GP Pro Spec Front Arms
1 98RG 003 RT4 GP Pro Spec Rear Arms
1 98ST 03 RT4 GP Pro Spec front and rear hub carrier
1 98RG T004F RT4 GP Pro Spec front universal drive shafts
1 98RG T004R RT4 GP Pro Spec rear universal drive shafts
1 98RG T011 RT4 GP Pro Spec front pro shock set
1 98RG T016 70mm turnbuckle
1 98GRT 4 65mm turnbuckle
1 98WT 14 A 52mm turnbuckle
1 98ST T05 RT4 GP Pro Spec Aluminum wheel hub
1 98V 002 V2 Rear shock tower

I think everything is pretty self explanatory. If you already have a v2 Pro then you will leave the rear shocks and rear shock tower stock but the front you will now mount a rear tower on the front of the buggy and use the Pro Spec front shock set up front. Other then that eveything is pretty straightforward. Feel free to give me a buzz if you need any help.

I just wanted to give props to Academy - this buggy is solid. I have only had mine for a few weeks, but so far everything has been top notch. It is extremely easy to work on and looks awesome. The only things I question are the plastic diff gears and the super soft suspension, which was an easy "fix". Given the cost of the kit, there isn't much to complain about. Props, guys, and take care!

The plastic diff gears like to melt when you run a Mamba 5700kv system... They didn't last five minutes...

Since I can't find any differential upgrades anywhere, I'm debating going to a local machine shop that makes custom gearsets to see if they could hook me up with something...

Considering those five minutes were the only time I actually had the car running, I can't form much of an opinion about it. I have a V1 with the factory V2 upgrades.

That's what I've been hearing. I have a Mamba 5700 system in it, as well. I had to retighten the diffs after a few runs, and I have the slipper set fairly loose, but it's still within the 1-2 foot slip range. I have been messing with the shimming a bit, but I've tried to keep it on the tight side. I also used Associated grease, because I happened to have some laying around, and their trannies are bullet proof. I've been taking it fairly easy on the throttle so far, so maybe things will change when I start letting it hang out a bit more. What parts have been melting? The teeth or the ball grooves?

The gears are not the issue. THe diff might be a touch loose, even if your diff is a little too loose you can get the STEEL OUTDRIVE upgrade which will dissipate the heat much better and not melt ANYTHING! Stormerhobbies.com and amainhobbies.com both have them in stock. Here are the links to both.

Sounds solid. I'm looking forward to racing this thing! Cha, do you have a fan on your Mamba? What gears are you using? I've cut some vent holes in the body and put a 14t pinion on, which seems to run fairly cool. It thermalled with a 16t pinion, though.

I have the SB V2 Pro with a mamba max 5700 unit and didn't have any gear issues. The main thing to remember is that diff spring and slipper spring takes longer to seat properly than what you may be used to, especially if you don't pre-compress the springs. Once that is done, i would run a few 1 minute runs and reset both each time. After a heat or two (5 minute total runs) it should set and keep.

5700 was a blast in the buggy.

I had a pretty awkward collision with a wall the other day. I hit this triple, which is right up against a wall, and right at the landing there is a little wooden step that protrudes into the track a few inches. Well, of course my front wheel hit the corner of that step, and I heard a little snap. I checked out the front arm, but I didn't see any damage, so I put it back on the track. This is kind of funny, because as I was headed back to the track, my brother's friend asked if he could try it. As soon as he started moving, a truck lightly bumped the buggy and the entire front end kind of came off. Basically, the plastic front chassis plate broke in half, the carbon top plate cracked at the front screw hole, the screw ripped off part of the tranny case, and the center drive shaft bent a bit. Now, I hit that step pretty hard, so I expected something to break. I thought it would have been an arm, however. Was that just a freak hit, or is the front chassis plate that weak or the arms that strong? Is there any way to prevent that from happening again? Like I said, I hit the wall really hard, so I don't blame the car for breaking. I would much rather replace an arm than 4 major parts of the car.
