Default 200mw NW802 Wireless Camera any good?

I saw these little junkers on eBay. Anyone know if they would actually work? Also, could I use a laptop at the field to record and view my video, or do I need a video camera? Yup, I am new to this kind of video. I saw some really cool footage here and now I wanna be one of the skycam fliers!

Thanks,

Lachlan McLean

Not really.
Do a search for Hongkong systems here and see what people have learned.
Check my website and see my trials and tribulations with various systems.
The best system out there both in performance and value for your money (in my opinion) are the systems sold by BlackwidowAV.com.
My latest video effort uses one of his systems:[link=http://fubar1.freeservers.com/RC/Movies/USBW1.wmv]USBW1[/link].
There is a lower resolutioned version at:[link=http://fubar1.freeservers.com/RC/Movies/USBW2.wmv]USBW2[/link].
Both the same movie but the second one is 13 megs whereas the first one is 26 megs. The 26 meg one is of a higher definition tho.
You can also find other videos on my site at:[link=http://fubar1.freeservers.com/rc/movies/movies.html]Fubar's Flix[/link].
I have one video on that site not listed on the Movies page and it was shot using one of those all in one cam/tx systems you are asking about:[link=http://fubar1.freeservers.com/rc/movies/slope wired.wmv]Slope Wired[/link].
I went thru many systems before I tried the BWAV setup. Should have tried that first. Would have saved myself a grip of money!

Fubar speaks the truth. I have ordered the blackwidowAV system to replace my Hong Kong camera (roughly what you are talking about). The cheapo I am using now works OK but has many drop-outs at any distance. I bought a 50mw (200mw input power) all in one 1.2 GHz camera/tx from EBay and put it on my Aerobird. The other big downside of these systems is the operate on frequencies that are not legal to use in the US (I did not realize this until I read postings here). The 2.4 GHz systems sold by BlackWidowAV and others operate in Ham bands that can be legally used with a technition class license (very easy to get). Here is a sample of video taken with my current setup, I hope to have the 2.4GHz system up and running in a couple of weeks (depending on when it gets shipped).

Thanks guys, I appreciate it. I guess I'll save a little cash and go with a BlackwidowAV setup. Besides, who wants to buy something from China? Bunch of Hong Kong Phooey. Probably get SARS from it anyway!

Jeepindog,

If you want to see a Black Widow Av system in the air before you buy it, drop me an email and we'll hook up.

It's worth making the distinction between Taiwan and the mainland... Taiwan is more respected for their design capabilities and the quality of manufacture, while the mainland does it faster, cheaper and cheaper

You should see this site. This guy used video camera mounted on the plane (wing span mere 120cm =50"). And it flew.

How in the world did he do that first video where the camera seems to stay "cued" on him? I suppose he could have done that with a heli but I'm guessing he's got a nifty rig setup with a very smooth camera rotation device. Very nifty :-) -phog
